My son adored this book;

Ultimate Book of Kids' concoctions

when he was younger.

We did a kind of mad scientist themed birthday party for his 7th (or maybe 8th) birthday based on a couple of ideas from it

We had all the kids make their own batch of slime to take home (made from white glue and borax and other non-dangerous household stuff). They got a lot more and it lasted a lot longer than those little egg thingies you get it in and it cost practically nothing. They had a choice of food colourings to put in it too.

Then I made 'treasure stones' and put those expanding sponge "grow your own dinosaurs inside and hid them round the garden. I told the kids we had had a meteor shower and they had to find the stones and break them open to find the treasure. One of the ingredients is used coffee grounds and I discovered, just at the right time, that Starbucks give away theirs free for people to put on their gardens!

It was a very successful party.

There are loads of other ideas in there too, and there is a second volume - we never got that but I bet it is just as good as the first.

I am not sure - some of the things appeal to kids of all ages - even me, but here you can see the list of contents and parts of some of the pages:

Is there anything there you'd like to make?
