It's the coldest winter for many years here in Essex and I now wish I'd lifted more of my dahlias (which had a particularly good year) and which have usually sailed through the winter left in the ground..
Probably a bit late to do anything about it now, though I hope it's the wet that rots them, not the cold.
Anyone out there taking drastic action to protect treasured plants?
or has this part of the forum just withered??

It certainly has been very cold, hasn't it? I shall have to sit back and see what survives to come up again in the Spring Sad

I've got quite a lot of banana plants in my utility room, and a couple of little ones in the bathroom which is a bit of luck as the one outside didn't look too clever before the cold weather.  My pineapple has pride of place in the lounge, I'm hoping it will fruit this year when it gets back into the greenhouse, it started as the top chopped off one we had for lunch and is now huge.
It's my own fault with dahlia's, they were special ones I had for my birthday and I only dug a couple up.
I'll be really thrilled if they all start shooting up again in the spring.

We had a banana plant for a number of years, but I really can't remember what sparked its demise. I do recall that my DH grew it from a kit given him by our son when he was just a little lad Smile
