How much are looking to spend?

How much do you think you will use it i.e. hours a day?

What are you going to sew: quilting, curtains or dressmaking?

Are you a member of your local Freecycle group?

I managed to get a straight stitching machine for nothing that is in excellent condition. You might want to consider it in case it isn't for you. At least that way you haven't spent loads of money & if you do like it you could invest in a better machine later when you know what you want it to do.
