I've just discovered these and really enjoyed the first two, am searching for the next one!

Set in the 1920's starring Dandy Gilver as an accidental amateur detective along the style/settings of the Lord Peter Wimsey series.  An excerpt from the first book is here.  The site is full of interesting back story stuff too.

No blood, guts and gore, just good old-fashioned detective work  Very Happy

I just spotted the covers as I was walking past the end of the crime aisle in Borders - I'd not heard of them either.  Should have said they're set in Scotland.
