Laughing  Yes I have managed to get into the garden today  Very Happy   Beautiful sunshine meant I managed to get some beetroot seedlings planted out and I planted my pointed cabbages. Trudie stood on one but I think it will survive  Rolling Eyes  I covered the cabbages with fleece, just incase it  becomes colder, again.
Anyway after tea it started to get a bit dull, then I heard it  Shocked  Shocked  Thunder  Confused   Heard it a few times but fortunately didn't see the lightening which my DS1 assured me was coming from this huge black cloud which was right beside the house   Laughing   At least my newly planted seedlings have been well and truely watered as have the pots that I planted up with flowering shrubs.
DH and DS1 took a whole load of garden rubbish down to the council tip (open till 4 on a Sunday  Very Happy ) so my garden is looking alot tidier. The only problem is I have a sore head so tomorrow I think I will nip up to Dobbies and get myself a new sun hat seeing as I can't find the old one  Rolling Eyes

We had an almighty thunderstorm around tea time here too! Smile I got out in the garden as well today....no planting but tidying! Mowed the lawn again, DH did it yesterday but it needed going over again, and raked it then edged the overgrown grass next to the paths and rescued our stepping stones in the lawn from being covered with grass completely! My hands are sore and my back aches...but I am happy! Smile

Been a productive day for a few of us then  Very Happy  I don't do grass, got rid of the lawn a few years ago  Laughing
Even let Betty have free run of the garden, didn't let the other hens out though cos I have seen them fly and didn't fancy having to climb the fences to retrieve them  Laughing  Betty made short work of a few dock leaves and things and had a dust bath in one of my, thankfully, empty beds  Very Happy  She and Trudie seem to have an understanding, they look at each other but don't bother each other. I was most surprised I was expecting Trudie to chase Betty  Rolling Eyes

Our rabbits used to chase Sly, they wandered around looking for him today, they even checked out the lounge.

As they have the run of all the garden.  Had to give up on the lawn DH needs to overhaul the mower so the guinea pig is in heaven, we can't see him in the long bits.

Well we couldn't be without a lawn with young children at the mo...but we are intending to overhaul the garden totally soon, taking out the pond at the back and making a separate play area for the boys with a climbing frame and playhouse and storage for the outdoor toys and bikes! We will keep some lawn but I want a nice flat winding path for them to ride their bikes up and down!! I can't wait!! Laughing

Had rain but no thunderstorms ....

We had a productive weekend in the garden including lawn tidying up and I've just put seeds into pots and trays...   flowers as well as veggies.

The cheapie "cloches" I got from Lidl are wonderful ...  am going to create a seedbed under one of them and grow some lettuce and bring on some other plants..  the other will be used for trays and pots and protecting delicates like the sweetcorn/tomatoes/courgettes we got from the nursery Saturday.
Feel as though we are getting somewhere with the "self sufficiency" we are striving for.
