Thanks.
I got a metre of it on ebay and it only cost £3.99, not bad for a pair of trousers. It's from here:- favourite fabrics
Edited to add, I've just noticed it's a jersey fabric and my mum warned me that sort would be too hard for me to use. It's fine, nice and stretchy for DD to charge about in. _________________ Ravelry ID ~ ChristinaJL |

They look lovely!
Curved hems - if it's a light weight fabric I press under a 1" turning before I stitch the pieces together (much easier to do it then!!) then when the legs are closed up, turn the raw edge to meet the fold and hem from the inside. If it's a heavier fabric or a lot of curve I overlock the edge (turning up the diff to create a slight ease if possible) and then turn the edge over once and sew a narrow hem stretching as I go to flip the edge over.
Now, for your waistband - I assume they're elasticated with a mock fly?
Cut the waistband twice the width of your elastic plus two seam allowances plus about 1cm wide and the length of the top of the trousers plus two seam allowances. Fold the fabric in half lenthways, wrong sides together and press in a crease along the fold. Press up a slightly smaller than usual seam allowance along one long edge.
Unfold and bring the two short ends together right sides together - sew the seam leaving a gap between the two creases you've just made. (waving hands madly in the air here!!!)
Now pin and stitch the uncreased long edge of the waistband to the right side of the top of your trousers. Fold the waistband over and pin the already creased bottom edge in place - you're making a casing!
If you've got it right, the folded edge should sit just below the stitching line of the seam you've just made.
From the right side, stitch close to the edge of the bottom edge of the waistband, catching the folded up edge on the back. Give it all a press and feel very smug.
Thread the elastic through the gap you left (clever eh?) and when you're happy it's the right size, sew the ends together and pop them through the hole. Hand stitch the hole up.
If you're accurate with the stitching on the bottom of the waistband you may have enough width to sew very close to the edge at the top before you add the elastic- it's not essential, but it gives a crisp look.
Good luck - I'm impressed with your progress so far!

thanks a lot.
That explanation makes sense. The English translation has is not fully translated from the German, so I'm following the German instructions. I'm hoping to have these finished maybe tonight or tomorrow evening, depending on how the hemming/waistband goes. _________________ Ravelry ID ~ ChristinaJL |

I've just joined this Yahoo group - mostly American sewers so the finished results are a little OTT in some cases but nice to see things made up!
