At the Melodys' school there is a vegetarian option every day and it's not confined to a jacket spud or sandwiches. There should be a vegetarian option  Evil or Very Mad Do you have a school councillor that you could voice your opinion to?

PP's you need to write a letter.
Make sure it's a POLITE letter.

Send it to the Head Teacher, and ask who you should write to.
Ask Mummy to put a letter in too. Head teachers have to write back to mums and dads. But the main letter should be from you.
Ask her if you should write to the Head of School meals?
Or should you write to the Education department?
Or the Local Council?
Or to your MP?

It's probably not her job, you see, to organise the school meals. But she will know who you should write to.

And then you send a copy of the letter to whoever she says, and ask for a reply within seven days.
If it's the council, they have things called "Standards" which mean they have to write back within a certain time.
After that you write to the Vegetarian Society and ask for their help.
And you write to the local paper and ask them if they can help you find out if this is happening in all the schools.

You need to get all the Vegetarian children together for a photo... newspapers like things like that.
Maybe you could write to the BBC too.

(You should see my file of letters from important people!)

Ah, I didn't explain very well.
What I meant was that there must be other veggie children in other schools, and maybe if you could find a way of linking up together then you could make the person in charge of school meals for ALL the schools take more notice of you.
Newspapers like this kind of story when the "small people" take on the "big organisation".
They especially like it when someone else does the work and all they have to do is take the photos!

The School meals service has to give you a choice.
There are some people who eat what is called Kosher food. These are people who are Jewish.
There are some who eat Halal food... Muslims.

The school meals service has to provide for these groups because of their religion and they should have to provide for you too.

Here is a leaflet you can send to the Head of School Meals.
You can download it, but make sure to ask Mummy or Daddy first, you should never download things without asking.

Well you know pp, that wouldn't really matter because everyone is entitled to school meals that meet their religious or cultural requirements. Your family have chosen to be vegetarians and school should respect your commitment to that and provide a vegetarian option for your at lunchtime.

I think you should mention 'Every Child Matters' in your letter too; I bet your mum could help you with that  Wink
