|

Please forgive this question the answer to which is probably obvious
If I freeze packs of minced beef ( I bought several today because they were a special offer and for the first time in 27 years I have room to freeze more than one pack ) and I then defrost them, and use them to make for example a spag bol, can I then freeze the leftovers if I make a double portion?
Obviously I know I can't refreeze the meat in an uncooked state once it's defrosted, but what I'm asking is does do the rules change once you've cooked it
I've been cooking from scratch for all these years but this is a whole new world

Yes..I always do! If you have cooked the meat...i.e.changed it's state from it's previously frozen one...you can refreeze it again! _________________ Sarah

There is nothing more satisying than a fridge full of yummy homemade leftovers...actually...I lie...it's not having to cook on the night you have lovely homemade leftovers! Now...all I need to do is get the knack of a slow cooker...I've always been a bit hesitant about leaving something like that on unattended! _________________ Sarah

Well, I used mine for the first time yesterday, and was out for four hours for IT training for work and it was fine.
DD had helpfully taken the lid off and stirred it mind you but no harm done.
The ceramic inner dish was really easy to wash too. _________________

So I guess you aren't meant to take off the lid and stir??! _________________ Sarah

lol that's something I would do...take the lid off something that I wasn't supposed to.
I think there's a lot of what you can and can't freeze and really, I just freeze everything, and i've never had salmonella, botcholism (sp? but a fab word - even it is for something horrible ). I think the knack is making sure it's properly heated through afterwards. _________________

Also Joy on the same subject of re-freezing. Don't forget if you defrost meat and then something happens and you don't have time to cook the meal - if you brown it off, you can re-freeze it in smaller portions for using later. Obviously you couldn't re-freeze again then, but at least you don't need to throw it away. - I know that sounds really obvious, but actually despite me freezing meals for years, it was my sister who did that when her hubby had phoned to say he would be home too late to eat a few weeks back, and she couldn't be bothered to cook it properly for just her........ It wouldn't have occurred to me! _________________ Claire

oh i just love having my own takeaway supply in the freezer of our leftovers. I am still checking out the slow cookers, was your chilli as tasty as cooked the conventional way Joy. Any one else got any opinions on slow cooking apart from the obvious energy saving.
