Wow, they look amazing! What a wonderfully sunny colour, and those purl ridges make all the difference. I love them.
I prefer to knit socks with heel flaps and gussets, but that's because I have a high instep and they fit me better that way.

i have a high instep too, i dont really see the difference in what sort of heel i wear.
linda, i am with you, short rows are way easier, i will probably stick to doing short rows, unless a pattern really does call for the heel flaps.
