Could is be a veggie version of the Quebequois dish, Cipaille
?
Maybe the Canadian veggie society might have it. There must be such a place on the web. I'll look later... I'm doing the ironing!

I've been a veggie seriously for about 15 years but have hardly eaten much meat since I found out what it was at the age of 3 But I do eat some fish like salmon - not slimy stuff tho - and I occasionally eat ham or bacon
For protein I eat a lot of low fat cheese, yogurt, soya stuff (Cauldron Foods do yummy Cumberland veggie sausages and cheesy Glamorgan sausies as well as various tofus, veggie burgers and falafels etc), chick peas and hummus, some beans tho not that keen except kidney beans, some eggs. I think slimming is harder as a veggie as a lot of the protein foods are quite high in calories.
Faves are veggie curries with chick peas, Cumberland veggie sausie with a garlic or spicy tomato sauce and cous cous, pasta with pesto and parmesan, sweet potato and red wine casserole with bouquet garni, mushroom risotto with lemon and parmesan, stir fry with broccoli, mushroom and tofu. _________________ Ali xxx |

I meant to come back on this. We had the Sea Pie last week and it was very nice. I used the marmite as stock and cheated on the dumpling. I made it from a packet of dumpling mix.
The only thing I would change would be to cut down on the portions. Too much for two but the dog was extremely pleased. Definitely would make it again.

We eat quite a bit of veggie stuff. I could probably live without meat - except for bacon sarnies hehe! Last night we had leek and potato soup. Tonight we'll probably have Ambledown Pie (made by 'Real' foods http://www.get-real.co.uk/html/products.html - I really like them - they do some nice things but they are quite hard to find. You cook them from frozen so we usually try and keep a couple of things in for when I forget to get something out for dinner!).
I quite often make a big vegetable stew with lentils and we have quite a lot of vegetable soup. I also make vegetable pasties which OH really likes. I'm going to try and keep our meat intake down to a couple of times a week. Will be keeping an eye on this thread! _________________ Sharon |

Franney I agree. Not sure if I would have tried it if I hadn't seen it made. The dumpling soaks up the stock and it does end up more like a veggie pie. DH saw me making it and commented "isn't that a waste of a good cabbage"? (his Favourite veg) but he really enjoyed the end result.
