My MIL will be 60 on the 24th so I'm making her a pair of walking socks with Opal Rainforest Owl 6ply.

I searched for a pattern that wouldn't clash with the stripes & am happy with it:

So do I Fi!

I should have included the pattern details sorry.

They're Broad Spiral Ribbing which is in 'More Sensational Knitted Socks' by Charlene Schurch so not free I'm afraid.  It's a 6 stitch pattern & only has 4 rows 2 of which are plain ribbing so is very easy to remember.

I'm knitting them on two 2.75mm 60cm cable needles n & have a gauge of 8 spi.  MIL's feet are 9" at the widest part of her foot so I'm working on 72 stitches (gauge x foot in inches = stitches to be cast on).

I'd considered doing a plain sock from just before the heel & down the foot as I didn't want any bulk in her walking boots but it's quite flat so won't be a problem.
