Thanks ladies, I'm in love with both of them so it'll be a toss up as to which get finished first.
Gilraen, I've not tried Monkeys yet but they're in my queue to do. This pattern is quite simple actually, you have to make sure you start your heel in the correct place of the pattern which I didn't to start with
I've never finished a toe up before as they normally get frogged halfway down a foot or after messing about with wraps on a heel, but this figure of 8 cast on was ok and I'm going to do a flap instead. I'm definitely converted to magic loop, I wish I'd tried it earlier instead of thinking it was something very difficult. Chrissy you'll find it a breeze
Anni's nought's n crosses pattern is fun though, seeing oxo makes me think I should have gone with red and white
Better get on with things or there will be no knitting time in the garden for me later!

They're both beauties! I love the Sockamania pattern, but don't know if I'm ready to try Fair Isle yet! _________________ My Blog: Put a Sock in it |

Go for it Ali. If you're worried, tell yourself you're only going to do one repeat of the fair isle pattern and then if you like it carry on, if you're finding it hard work, just leave it at one repeat. That's why I made this pattern fairly simple and flexible so that if anyone hasn't tried fair isle before they can have a go. The pattern is easy to memorize. Don't get too caught up in the technical stuff. All I do when I knit fair isle is knit as normal with the dominant colour and then drop it when I use the 2nd colour and just 'throw' it around the needle as in English style knitting. I keep wanting to use the two-handed technique but I just can't get the hang of it.
Great socks, Tracy.Where's the Elfine pattern from? Don't tink I've seen that pattern before. Gorgeous colours too. had a great day on Saturday and it was lovely to meet you. _________________ www.annisknittingblog.blogspot.com - My Blog

Anni's pattern is a brilliant one to practice knitting with two hands if you want to learn this way. I taught myself when I wanted to do a couple of Norwegian sweaters (pictures here http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Woollywarbler ) My left hand just mirror images my right, even down to the way I hold my yarn over my fore and little finger. As long as you keep the floats even by not pulling them tightly behind your work, it's an easy thing to do.
The pattern for Elfine comes from here http://autoscopia.com/amelia/assets/elfinesocks.pdf
I wanted to do these for 2 years now but always steered clear of Magic Loop. There's an excellent video here if it helps anybody http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/advanced_techniques/
I'm one of those people that needs to see thing in real life for it to make any sense!
Better go get showered and dressed now everyone's left the house. First day in Sixth Form for DS1, DS2 went back to school yesterday, DH already at work. Disney is sat on my feet and I could quite happily sit here all day in the peace and quiet with my socks for company. Insert big sigh here......

Okay, you've convinced me. I'll give it a go! Nothing ventured, and all that jazz.
I guess it's a bit lame to join a KAL, and then not even make an attempt at the pattern.
