Thanks everyone. I used Debbie Bliss's Soho Ali. I managed to buy 500g for £15 from Coldspring a few months ago. The colour isn't perfect (hence the very cheap price) & if you look closely at the yarn in balls you can see the odd bit of white but it's great for felting & the bad dyeing wasn't noticeable once felted. Like my last pair I used a different yarn to the pattern which had a different gauge. So I had to get the calculator out & with DH's help work out how to adjust the pattern. This pair were made for size 6.5 feet & took 3.5 50g balls.

You can use any pure wool yarn that isn't machine washable. Do a tension swatch & then you need to work out the % difference between the gauge on the pattern & yours. Then add or decrease the numbers in the pattern accordingly.
For example:
DB Soho on 6.5mm needles (suggested normal knitting 5.5mm so I went up a full mm to the give the yarn space to felt) was 14 sts per 4" rather than 12 sts per 4" which was a difference of 16.68% so this figure was added to add the numbers in the pattern (so instead of casting on 44 sts I cast on 56 sts). If it gave me an odd number I rounded it up to the nearest even number.
I knitted both pairs on magic loop as I don't have any dpns as I can't stand them which got a bit tight near the toe but I kept going. I don't normally use ML as I find I get ladders but if I'm felting that doesn't matter as any ladders will be closed up.
Thanks re the bookmarks. I did the first two for Gilraen but then DD & her friend saw them & nagged me for ages until I gave in. _________________ Cheers

Thanks for that
have to admit I had a go at doing a couple of bookmarks like yours as I had some large beads hanging around - found a flower type motif in a sirdar book _________________ Cazzie |

Here is my attempt - not as good as yours - think I need either thicker cotton or a finer needle
