So, I have survived the short row heel Smile Actually, its just the same as the short row toe so if you get passed that bit its easy. If you've not done this method before, I would give it a go as its easier than you might think. I'm quite happy with the short rows (only a few little gaps) but I do have quite a gap when I joined the round back in after the heel, despite picking up an extra stitch or two. I have attempted to redo it a couple of times with the same problem, so even though I'm not entirely happy, I shall leave it for now. Maybe darn it later Smile Pics when I get this first one done Smile

I have no idea when this pair will be finished as I feel like I am wrestling with them Sad I have frogged and redone the heel 5 times, and although I'm not entirely happy with the present outcome, there are only a couple of holes so they will have to do (otherwise I think I will march out into the garden and set fire to them Twisted Evil ). I love the pattern, but I HATE short row heels (and I've tried various methods and don't like any of them). I so want to cast on a lovely, soothing pair of cuff down but fear these will never get finished if I do Wink

The sock looks gorgeous Adele and I love the yarn. It works well with the pattern althogh it's variegated. I'm sorry you're having problems iwth hte heel. When you start working in the round again after the heel try this method which i only learnt a couple of weeks ago. I've jsut used it on a short row heel sock and it worked brilliantly.

Pick up one loop of the stitch below the last stitch on right needle and ktbl and leave it on right needle. Then pick up one loop of the stitch below the first stitch on left needle and ktbl. Repeat on the other side. Next round on the end of the heel stitches (were you picked up the first stitch) k2tog. Then ssk to decrease the 2nd stitch picked. Repeat the other side. Also try to work this section a bit tighter on the first couple of rounds after the heel. Try it and see if it works. It did for me as I used to get slight holes there too after shortrow heels.

As for toes, I hate short row toes and prefer using turkish cast on/Eastern Cast on. Turkish was descriped in latest Yarn Forward and EAstern in Interweave Knits and they look the same to me. It's the easiest cast on I've ever done for toe up socks.

Keep going with the socks PL. YOu'll feel so good when you've conquered them. Very Happy

Thanks for the tips Anni (will come in useful for sock 2 Smile ). Its odd, because I followed LittleBerry's short row instructions which have helped a lot with the holes but on the purl bits I have holes whereas on the knit I dont (must be the way I knit - I know I knit looser on purl rows). I love the pattern Anni and would love to do a pair for me (I have some red STR that would look great) but am wondering if I could reverse the pattern somehow to knit cuff down Smile
