Eeep! I've cast on for Swallowtail. Shocked And I wasn't supposed to be casting on anything else til I'd finished Cozy, Branching Out, the current Clapotis and those wretched gloves. And then it was going to be Kiri.

But, I've started and done the first chart thing and am on the third repeat of the second chart. And I'm reading a chart really easily. Shocked After thinking I couldn't, I decided if I can read music, then I can read a chart. And I can. Very Happy

It might all come to naught - I'm using Tofutsies which I bought yesterday and it might be too patterndy........

Pics and progress reports later in the week. Very Happy

I'll do a few more repeats tonight and then post a pic Very Happy

You're right LB, it is a good pattern - I'd got it in the back of my mind for sometime, but then I read about yours and I couldn't stop thinking about it Shocked Well, when it gets to that stage you have to do something about it don't you!

looby, what size needles did you use, and what length. I'm looking at this pattern to make for a local show but (and it's a big but) it will depend on how I get on. The pattern only says 3.5mm and I've not knitted a shawl before, I suspect from reading various bits it needs to be a circular needle, would 80cm be long enough or should I go for the next length at 100cm. I intend using suri alpaca but don't want to order it until I'm sure. The show is in August, will I have time to finish it before then?

Any help really appreciated. Thanks
Carol

I'm using 4mm circular (because it's sock yarn) - and I think it's 60cm... which will probably be a bit short when I get up to 250 plus stitches, so have to think about what to do then! 80cm might be ok - 100cm would give you loads of room I think.

Will you have time to finish it by August.... I would say yes. I'm getting on really well with mine - I'm not pushing at it by any means just taking it steadily - and I've done seven of the 14 repeats needed for the second chart, so just over a hundred stitches.

LittleBerry is a bit of a Swallowtail expert - I'm sure she'll be along later with some helpful advice too!

well am here, but wouldn't say I'm an expert.....

The easy bit your needle leength 80cm is fine, TBH if I buy circulars I tend to buy an 80cm, unless its for socks then I buy 60cm..... I sort of feel that it's long enough to use for bigger projects and not too long if it's only a little project....

the yarn in the magazine is KP, all their lace yarns come out at 8metres per gram. Your Suri Alpaca (presuming this is the CTH) has 426m in 50g, therefore is 8.52 m/g which is a tad finer than KP, so the stated needles should be OK.....

Well after seeing Lindyloop's beautiful Swallowtail, I decided to bring mine in from the naughty corner where it's been languishing for the last 11 months  Shocked

Along with lots of other people (from the comments on Rav) I got stuck on the nupps  Sad   I'd put it away after two rows into the first nupp chart.  Now I've finished the first chart and am nupping in the second one.  Still can't say I'm enjoying them tho  Confused   But the will to get to the end is stronger  Very Happy

But, how I wish I'd looked at Rav before getting too far into the nupps.  'Cos then I would have subbed them with a pearl, or a bead  Rolling Eyes   Tho' knowing that makes me think I'll do another one 'cos until the nupps I'd been zooming along.

Light's too dull for pics now - will try a snapping session tomorrow.
