That made sense to me, terri, and I thought yes the

<img src="URL">

tag should be closed and should be

<img src="URL"/>

but when I tried it on my blog it gave me an error.

I don't know why that should be because it is perfectly correct HTML as far as I can see.

Anyway if anyone has trouble with that line then I guess the answer is to try both and see which works

Wow, that is all so technical! I would love to take a computer class that teaches how to do all this stuff. I'll have to look into it!

I'd love to join too, but I don't know if I have anything to say that anyone else would want to read! Embarassed I don't have a digital camera either, so I couldn't post any pics. Crying or Very sad I'll have to think about it and maybe after I get a camera, I'll join in. It does sound like fun! I have read a number of your blogs ladies, and they are really good! It's nice to be inspired by all of you and to get to know you all a little bit better. Keep blogging away! I look forward to reading what you're all up to next!

Have a great day everybody. Very Happy It's going to be in the upper 80s here today and the Santa Ana winds are starting to pick up and it's only 6:55 a.m. I just pray we don't have any more fires. That's always a concern, especially when it's windy for some reason.

Wow Jacquie ~ I'm impressed! Where did you learn all that? I'd love to get a book or something that explains all this "language" stuff. What is it actually called? I'd love to be more knowlegable so I could be helpful too! Smile

Actually I am a computer programmer by trade, so it is my job to know these things. Very Happy

The language used for web pages - including blogs is HTML.

For blogging there are plenty of hosting services that do all the hard work for you so all you have to do is choose a template and click on a few buttons and you are ready for posting.

A bit of HTML knowledge is good if you want to do anything fancy, but chances are if you ask here someone else has already done something similar and will be only to happy to give you what you need, or show you how.

There are loads of books about HTML. I love the Dummies books for most things - you always know they are not going to go right in over your head and will start at a level you'll feel comfotable with. I am sure the HTML one is no exception and would be a good place to start.

The other thing I would say is, it is good to approach learning most computery things on a kind of 'need to know' basis - so instead of starting on page one and reading to the end, work out what it is you want to do and then set about finding out how to achieve that particular task. That way you will get to understand how it works in a practical way instead of just a lot of theory that you don't relate to.

Don't be afraid to try it because you think you will not get it right - no one gets it right the first time, and you won't blow up your computer, or accidentally delete everything off your hard drive Rolling Eyes

Wow! Thank you SO much Jacquie. That's great advice. It must be really interesting to be a computer programmer. I'm afraid that's way over my head, but it sure seems interesting!

Thanks for the tips!

Fantastic idea having ablogring and I love the button. I've added the ring to my blog and it worked okay. Put it donw the bottom with other blog rings as it's too big for the side bar.

am I right in thinking we're supposed to put the url code for the button into the code for the blogring thing or is the button a separate thing? I couldn't work out how to add the button url into the html code, couldn't get it to work. So I put it all on separate. In my preview the button is on my blog but takes me back to this page. What am I doing wrong?

Any chance of step by step instructions for dummies please? I've read this whole post but still can't work it out.

I need to go soon, but later on I am going to try and work out how to get RingSurf (who host the blog rings) to give you the code with the button already in it - I know other rings do it OK.

Then it should be much easier to install, so please bear with me.

If I can't do that for some reason I will do the step by step thing.

I can't work out how to do the button all in one. You have to host your own copy of it anyway.

So here are more comprehensive directions for downloading, uploading and displaying the button on our blogring link.

    1. To download to a folder on your computer: Righ click on the image and select Save Picture to... from the popup menu. Choose a folder to save it in and save it. Here is the button:

    Thanks to Linz aka KnittingLadyBird

    2. To upload to a picture hosting service - follow the directions for your chosen host. I use my blog service file uploader at www.Typepad.com or www.photobucket.com but there are others I am sure people will recommend depending upon what else you want to use it for. The purpose of this stage is to give your image a URL.

    3. Insert the URL into your blogring code:

    This is what the code looks like before this change with the bit we are going to replace in bold

    <table border=0>
    <tr><td>
    <div style="{padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #0000aa;}">
    <center><b><a href="http://knittersyarns.forumhum.com/viewtopic.php?t=17">Crafty Threads 'n' Yarns</a></b><br></center>
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=addform">Join</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=list">List</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=prev">Previous</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=next">Next</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=rand">Random</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=prev5">Previous 5</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=next5">Next 5</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=sprev">Skip Previous</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=skip">Skip Next</a>
    <div align=right><a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/">Powered by RingSurf</a></div>
    </div>
    </td></tr>
    </table>

    Here it is again with the change in bold (put the URL you have just got where it says YOUR URL HERE)

    <table border=0>
    <tr><td>
    <div style="{padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #0000aa;}">
    <center><b><a href="http://knittersyarns.forumhum.com/viewtopic.php?t=17"><img src="YOUR URL HERE"></a></b><br></center>
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=addform">Join</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=list">List</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=prev">Previous</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=next">Next</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;action=rand">Random</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=prev5">Previous 5</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=next5">Next 5</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=sprev">Skip Previous</a> |
    <a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/netring?ring=crafts100;id=***SITE ID***;action=skip">Skip Next</a>
    <div align=right><a href="http://www.ringsurf.com/">Powered by RingSurf</a></div>
    </div>
    </td></tr>
    </table>

    And that should be it!
