|
|
As I said on another thread I was telling Terri about the looms Twistfibre sell and got so excited about the little beginner's one I have asked Mr Pictish for it for Christmas and it is now put to one side waiting for him to buy it It is 25cm - 10" - wide so will do a decent scarf and a small cushion in width and will take a length of up to 2.5m. They come with all the bits and pieces you need except the yarn. It takes about a day to make a scarf on one. You can see it on the website here

That's really similar to the one I have. I haven't got my head round warping up yet though I think I'm going to get a book or two and have a serious try in the New Year. Perhaps we could do a weavealong!?

Claire, do you read Spinning Sue's blog? (I have no idea how I ended up finding her, she must be on someone else list, but her blog is great!) Anyway, to the point, she recently got a loom and started weaving. You might be able to ask her where she found the best information. Her blog is http://spinningsue.typepad.com/spinning_sue/ . If you look around Oct 20th I think that's kind of when she got it. _________________ Claire

Thanks for that link Noo I'm not averse to a weavalong Claire I'm hoping Mr P will show me how to warp up - he got the Ashford Book of Rigid Heddle Weaving which he thought was very good for starters. _________________ Ali xxx |

Well I got the little loom for Christmas and Mr Pictish got one too for doing sample pieces and it's fine for him but I decided it was a bit limiting for me so I'm swapping it for a small Ashford Rigid Heddle loom - the 16" size - so I can do a wider thing as well as scarves and tapestry weaving. It's a lot better made and sturdier and you can get extra heddles for it for thinner or thicker yarns and you can even use it with 2 heddles for more intricate types of weaving. Mine is coming in about 2 weeks but I have borrowed one of Twistfibre's till mine arrives.
Mr Pictish showed me how to warp up - which is the most fiddly and time-consuming bit - and here is my fisrt attempt in some spare practice yarn. When I am happy with the balance of my weave and with the edges I have some Artesano Alpaca ready to do a plain weave scarf with beaded tassles It's good fun and it grows very quickly.

I just don't know how I'm going to fit it all in Spinning, weaving, masses of knitting, tapestry, cross-stitch _________________ Ali xxx |
