I want to do some ribbed (2 by 2) socks - ribbing down leg and on top of foot (probably not on the sole????). But do you know it is obviously soooo basic I can't find a pattern. And I don't know when to start the ribbing again after turning the heel and on which stitches Can anybody recommend a pattern or tell me how it can be done? I just want to use a 60st pattern if possible as I am just using Opal.

i nearly always do mine on two circs...... all you do on that method is rib the first circ when you get to the foot, and st st the underneath. You would need to start with K1 though instead of two to keep the sock top and bottom even.......
Does that make any sense?? _________________ Terri xx |

I have made socks in this sort of pattern and I believe I wrote it down in my note book, so I will copy it out for you and send it but I am at work right now and of course the note book is at home sat on the sofa |

I also can't find a pattern, but I go along with what Terri said about the k1 or p1 start/finish. If you're on dpns when you get to start on the heel flap you'll need to make sure that the stitch you start on is the second one of a rib, so only a K1 or a P1, not a K2 or P2, and then your foot will also start and finish with either a K1 or P1 and it centralises the pattern.
So when you get to start the heel, you just have to rearrange your stitches a teeny bit. You'll finish on P2 so either knit the next stitch (the first of the K2) and leave it with the others for the instep and then knit across the next 30 for the heel flap (which will give you a K1 start and finish on the foot) or stop the leg on the last purl, so only purl 1 of the last P2, and then slip that second purl stitch to the next needle as the first stitch of your 30 heel ones. Personally I prefer the foot stitches to start and end with p1, I like how that looks, but tis up to you.
Oops, that's a long answer, I hope it makes sense - probably more confusing than helpful! You might be best off waiting for GS's notes _________________

Does it have to be 2x2 ribbing Ali? I've found a 3x1 rib sock pattern over 60 stitches in Rav, Basic Ribbed Socks _________________

I did a pattern for Evolution/sportweight in 2x2 ribbing, you would have to make it for 64 stitches for fingering weight instead of 56 but otherwise it's already done on pdf.
