That quilt is totally amazing. Jacquie I'd love to see the words - I can read ceremony on the first and wisdom on the blue one, but the others haven't come out well enough to read on my monitor.
Carolinne, it's awesome, very moving!

mary beth, thankyou for your kind if stuttering words. i made the quilt for my sister as she said. it was based on one i saw on simply quilts i will try to find the programme details so that you can see them your self. my sister said she would like her actual garden to be a japanese one so i thought the path quilt would be perfect. there are 25 steps one for each year of their marriage and the special years are marked by the use of silk. i did lots of research about the symbolism of the months in japanese and they are characterised by colours and qualities. so for example my nieces was born in june so i chose the colour for june and i embroidered a word that characterised that month in japan and her personality. i used soem lovely blue fabric reminiscent of the fabric that japanese workers clothes are made from for the back ground and the quilting is just around each step. iwas going to do some sashiko on the boarder but it looked a bit too much so i didnt. the one on simply quilts was not as personalised as theh one a gave my sister.but i love to make things that are very specific to the person who will recieve it. i hope that answers your question. i loved doing it andit went to a more than deserving owner. |
