I am reading this at the moment and it is superb!!!! I am having to pace myself otherwise I think I would have read it straight off in a couple of days
It is about Mary Queen of Scots when she is in captivity in England living under the guard of Bess of Hardwick and her husband the Earl of Shrewsbury. And it is told from each of the 3 main characters' perspective as the relationships unfold. Beautifully done.
It came out in hardback last month I think - I got it half price in Tescos.

I'm waiting to read my mum's copy. I wish she'd hurry up!!
I remember when I went to Hardwick Hall years ago the man on the till of the Old Hall said I looked just like the portrait of the young Bess of Hardwick.
Sadly Till Man just wasn't my type (and was probably a bit old anyway) but when one of my friends told me that it could have been the Duke of Devonshire's son, as he often does Till Duty at Hardwick, I decided that I could have lowered my standards for wealth and titles _________________ "I can resist everything except temptation" - Oscar Wilde.

I'm on the waiting list for this in the library.
I love things about MQS too and I like most of PG's historical novels.
Not PG and not a novel, but the book 'Becoming Queen' about Queen Victoria looks interesting. It's by Kate Williams. |

I am about a third of my way through this book, it really is brilliant !! Bess is proving to be a bit of a goldigger isnt she?
I got mine in a BOGOF offer at Smiths, along with The 19th Wife which is about the Mormons and Latter Day saints. I have to confess I had to give up halfway through that one, because it was becoming a real slog Its a shame because the subject matter is really interesting. |

She is isn't she!!! I loved this book Glad you're enjoying it Jo!! I've seen the other one but haven't read it - might not bother if it's heavy going I'm looking forward to PG's new one - due in the summer maybe? - called The White Queen I think and about Elizabeth Woodville, the Wars of the Roses and the princes in the tower
