Yarn Forward new Editor!!!I've just seen on Ravelry that Yarn Forward mag has a new editor. Its Knitgrrrl from America. She has designed lots of things and written loads of books.
I hope they keep the UK stuff in the mag though. I love that it is a UK mag for UK knitters with our knitting terms, yarns etc.
It hasnt been announced on the YF blog yet, but the YF ravelry group has the details and so has Kerries blog.
I thought Lou was the editor

I don't know about Lou I'm afraid.
I just bought my copy of issue 7 and I'm impressed with it

Saw this on the Rav group too, I wonder if they are hoping that an american editor will help break into the american market, especially one that is well known. I imagine the next copy or 2 are almost ready for printing so imagine it will be a couple of months before we notice a difference.

But I thought the whole idea of Yarn Forward was that it was a UK mag to rival something like Interweave Knits?!

So did I!!!

Me too. I didn't sign up for a sub for a magazine like this, I was expecting a quarterly, "weighty" magazine with the number and quality of patterns as Interweave (eventually).
I'd already decided not to renew my sub, I'll buy copies if the content appeals to me.

Claire - if you look back at old posts on Ravelry and the yarnforward blog... about 3 months ago there was an advert for a "fulltime" Editor to replace Kerrie (and I'm guessing Lou)...
So shouldn't be too much of a surprise that there is a new Editor announced...
Biggest shock is that they are an american.. but I'd say it's a BIG scoop for them to get someone so well known.....
Agree it will help their US circulation no end... but should be good to keep ahead with IK too to get the US trends etc...
Good luck to them!!!

I notice this is your first post covknitter so hello and welcome : )
I'm not surprised that there is a new editor - although I thought that Kerrie was looking for a replacement, not Lou. The replacement is for an Editor, so I dont know if Lou and Kerrie's jobs are being replaced by one person.
I am just surprised that it is an American who has been taken on as editor because I understood that the fundamental ethos of Yarn Forward was that it is a UK magazine, UK based, run in the UK with UK designers, etc. I expect a little US input of course. This just feels like George Bush becoming Prime Minister whilst running the UK from Washington and I am feeling a bit cautious about the outcome.
The latest issue number 7 is brilliant and I dont want to see its uniqueness tampered with or the UK imput diluted in any way. Thats all.

I suspect that the only way they can really grow is to try to appeal to a wider market.
Realistically they will never become an "Interweave" on the back of UK-only sales. There just aren't enough of us

I can't see why the nationality of the editor, or who they've replaced is an issue tbh
If you like the mag, you buy, if you don't then you don't have to, simple really. I think that the magazine will remain UK focused, but as a monthly mag now, I don't think it's really going to rival the likes of IW in terms of volume, but should still hopefully have some decent patterns. I think the more recent issues have been pretty good, with good pattern support.
I say good luck to them too

Aren't some of the designers American already?? And some of the yarns used? - tho they always have UK alternatives for subbing. I could be wrong but that was my impression.
I really liked the last few issues and just hope it carries on being as good.

I must remember that not all change is bad, sometimes it is goo too LOL

It's very human to react negatively to change.
Maybe this will sort the aliens from the humans

Managed to get this yesterday and I am very impressed with it.
I too love the idea that is a totally UK mag, not aimed at the commercial market.

Think both Kerrie and Shannon have reassured readers on the Ravelry group that the Britishness of the mag will not be affected. And they already use some international designers. As long as they continue being interested in my designs I'm happy.
