Yarn Forward: January IssueMy final sub copy arrived yesterday, and once gain what a lovely surprise the magazine is.
There are some really knittable patterns, including a beautiful shawl designed by Anni, and a very interesting little tippet.
This was my last subscription copy. I am going to ask for a resub as a Christms present.
Thumbs up from me ( and a very marked contrast to my other subbed magazine that arrived this week, Let's Knit. This was definitely my last copy of this.

Sedna? Yes, it's lovely isn't it.
It's a good "read" too, there's a great feature on Elizabeth Lovick amongst other things.

I will be looking for this in Tescos again (or getting DH to if I'm not up to it) - I just loved the last one. As you say there is a lot to read - not just a flick through looking at pictures which is the case with most of the others.

This is by far my favourite issue so far. I love the cabled car coat and the kimono. I also think the tippet is lovely, as is Anni's shawl
I've even gone so far as to get the extra yarn I needed to do the kimono - as I already had some Kureyon in stash so got a bit more from Stash/Celticove, along with the Cash Iroha. Both were on sale too
I was previously a bit grumpy about this mag going to 10 issues but I will now be resubbing after seeing this issue. Resubbers get 2 free issues too so it makes it a good deal.

i didn't like this one which is unusual for me. i'm not keen on the preview for interweave knits this time either. i think it's time to prune my subscriptions and buy the mags as the fancy takes me

Have you see the corrections for Sedna on Ravelry - apparently the stitch glossary/abreviations key was missed out. They had the missed bit up on Ravelry ready to print out within 24 hours which is pretty impressive IMHO.
Love the shawl Annie, and the car coat too. The tutorial on stitchmarkers and pressies is good too : )

I think it was the designer who put the corrections up, not YF.
I want to make Sedna and Annis shawl as soon as the christmas knittings done.

I got my copy and I'm quite pleased with it again. Anni's shawl is lovely!
I like Sedna too, but I'd be boring and lengthen the main body and sleeves of the pattern, getting rid of the lower panels.

Got mine.
I love Anni's shawl.

Yes it is a good read with some very nice patterns but I was a bit put out to find that despite a reply to my email a while back which told me I would be getting the 9th issue free as my final one because I had subbed from the beginning, and would re sub from 10, the letter with this issue (no 8.) says this is my last and I need to resubscribe now to get 2 issues free. What about the fact that I paid for 4 issues at the higher price and have had 2 of them at the lower one. I have had to wait for so many to turn up after everyone elses, had to email for their whereabouts, wait until after they had handed them out at a show before they would post subs copies and last month it even came 4 days after I'd seen it in Tescos - I really can't be bothered with the hassle and agro any more.
Sorry, rant over - it's just that if I provided customer service like that in my job - I'd be on disciplinary!

I've emailed to ask about it, cos I'm also a little peeved that I've subbed from the beginning, mag has dropped in price, and I haven't got a free issue like promised.

Dare I say I got my free one

I've been terribly confused tbh.
I've subbed from the beginning. This was issue 8, and I had a letter with it telling me it was my last copy, and what to do to re-sub.
It says I will have 2 free issues if I re-subscribe before December 10th. But nothing about a free copy.
|
cazzie
|
I think 8 was the free one - or I may have confused myself now - I think my first sub was for 4 issues, the 2nd sub was only for 3 and that leaves 8 as the free one - I think

I paid for two full year subs, of four mags each year, I'm 99% sure of it.
You shouldn't have to resubscribe to get two free I don't think in fairness, beacuse woth the original subs, you paid for 8 magazines at £4.50 each, and the mag is now only £3.95 or whatever it is. I think it's quite cheeky to say you have to subscribe again now to get the free issues, they've already been paid for more than has been delivered, thats just my very grumpy sunday morning opinion though

I'm confused I cant work out what I subscribed to I think you may be right Terri - in which case I havent had a free one
I paid £13.50 for the first sub which included a free copy and then £18.00 for the next one which should be 4 issues - 8 issues in total
I was thinking of re-subscribing again but am going to hold off now until I am sure of whats what...

I emailed on thursday asking about it, so will post the response here when I receive it

i'd be interested to find out too as i'm confused by it all. i thought there was a free issue to come to previous subscribers as well.

I got mine but I've not opened it because I'm saving it to read tomorrow whilst waiting in for British Gas. I have subscribed since the beginning and thought I would get issue 9 free, and my resubscription letter would be in issue 9. Looks like I am mistaken.

On Ravelry, Kerrie has advised people to email Mandy who deals with the subscriptions - mandy@kalmedia.co.uk.
I've just emailed her so she should see it tomorrow when the office opens.

I didn't email Mandy - but I have had an email from her this morning, and am assuming it has gone out to all subscribers.
It seems that those of us who were eligible should have received Issue 9 as a free copy, which will now happen, as they have extended the re-sub date to December 20th, which seems to mean that we can wait to receive our copy of issue 9 before resubscribing or resubscribe now and receive issues 10 - 21.
It's nice to know they are on the ball.

Thank you to those who commented on my shawl. Very exciting to have another desing in the mag and I've got another one next month, which was a design I really loved and struggled to send off. Sent off another design to them last week and wroking on another one right now and sent off a new idea to Shannon today so fingers crossed you may see a lot more of me in there.
Loved this issue. Not sure if I'll get time to knit anything from it though. LOL.

I have recieved the email now too - at least they contacted us to apologise - (even though I still think the should have got it right first time).
Hope you hear from them soon Terri, and well done YarnAddict on such a lovely design (with more to come, that's great news )

Noel ordered my subscription at the very beginning and even though he put my email address and name etc because it was a gift, the magazine and emails still gets sent to him. I think they like having a man on thier lists because they just do not want to change the details
My magazine came last week, but I took it unopened to a very poorly lady so that she could read it while still in bed So I can't comment on what's in it but I am sure Snail can
My first Yarn Forward, I lent to a friend (a member who hasn't posted for a very long time), I had not read that one either, and the same meeting I borrowed a stitch holder, we said we would we swap at a later date. We haven't seen each other since .... she did offer on a couple of occassions to post the magazine back to me ... and I just said "no", when we see each other - but we just haven't seen each other Not worried about the magazine

Late to post about this but I found it today in my local independent newsagent So I bought it. And had a long discussion with the lady behind the counter about knitting magazines and how nice it is to finally have one that isn't sealed up so you can look through it and make sure that you like what's in it before you buy.
Anni's shawl is lovely, I might well have a go at that (although I'm not sure I'm quite clever enough at lace yet, we shall see), and Sedna's nice too. And I really like the cabled car coat but I think it would be a lifetime project

Well I have got DH to look 4 times for this in Tescos and he says they eventually told him they aren't stocking it any more I will try and get it in town next week. I do like it but am not subscribing to anything else.

I bought the December issue from Get Knitted and it arrived today. I really liked the aran cardie on the front cover and that's why I bought it. I'm quite liking the top-down cardie jacket in the next issue (the blue one) so I'm actually considering buying this again!

I had an email today from the YF subs manager (Mandy) confirming that my sub has been extended to issue 21 - so they are going through all the recent subs and double checking. Wasn't expecting a personal email (as opposed to the blanket one originally sent) so pleasantly surprised!

I don't often buy knitting mags. I like IK - I've got that on a sub at the mo - but I'm not often really taken by most of them. I picked up a copy a few days ago - looks pretty good.
