Yarn for Glee?

I'd like to knit Glee from Zephyr Style and think I've got the yarn in mind but would like to know your thoughts!

I've found Artesano Inca Mist and Inca Cloud, both knit to the same tension and have the same meterage, but does anybody have any views on either or both of these yarns? I've never knitted with either and don't have either in stash (doh!) so would like to hear your views on whether they would be suitable to knit Glee in or not  Very Happy[

I can't comment on this yarn for the cardigan, but I used it for a hat and scarf on 4mm needles, and it was REALLY drapey - perhaps it would be better on 3.25mm as the pattern says.

Could someone send you a scrap of leftovers so you could swatch and see how it behaves? (Sorry I don't have any left)

Inca Mist has got less of a twist on it I think and is baby alpaca so much softer. It might not wear as well though. The Inca Cloud is still very soft though and lovely yarn. I just couldn't get guage with it Confused

The Inca Mist is spun at the same mill as the RYC Baby Alpaca.

It's a lovely pattern!!

I quite fancy the one that looks like it's more twisty. I can't remember which one is which though!

Decisions, decisions!  Cool

It's the mist I fancy as it looks more twisty and less hairy iyswim??

I've got some leftover inca cloud if you want it to knit a swatch with,
Jobo

I have used both - I knitted a hat for my sister in the Inca cloud and I found the fabric very uneven but it blocked out OK.   Pictish is right about this one being more twisty.

I knitted my Fern cardigan in the Inca Mist and I have to say I preferred this one - again it looked uneven during knitting but blocked out to a really lovely fabric.  You can see a picture of my Fern Cardigan here - the middle picture shows best how nice the fabric looks when it is finished Very Happy

I want to make another one of these.  Its a lovely cardi and a beautifully written pattern.  I think the two tone ribs add just enough interest to stop it being boring Smile

Debs, I am thinking Glee in Alpaca might be itchy next to your skin?  I would have to wear a vest top under it.  Just a thought - don't want to put you off Very Happy

Ahhhh okay!! I'm literally going on the pictures of the yarn rather than anything else  Cool  Laughing  Laughing

So Mist trumps Cloud for garments??

Nevis I'd love to try a sample.... I'll pm you!!

I have a lot of things I made in Jaeger Alpaca 4 Ply and while it is very soft and very hardwearing, they are all a bit tickly next to the skin Confused I still wear them though Wink
lillybee

your cardigan is lovely Jobo, in fact all of your cardis are lovely. I will be adding some to my ever expanding faves  Very Happy  I have not tried any of the yarns so no help here
Jobo

Thank you Liz Very Happy

Pictish - I would have loved to have got my hands on some of that Jaeger Alpaca, but sadly it was discontinued long ago Sad

I think sometimes it just *has* to be Alpaca doesnt it?  I have knitted the back of my Alana cardi in the Lima and it is so soft and lovely.

I've got a shop bought cardi in black Alpaca that I bought from BHS and it washes up a treat Very Happy

Debs, I wouldnt hesitate to use any of the Artesano yarns again if that's any help - they really are very good quality Smile

I have to confess I stocked up on it when it was discontinued and on ebay since Wink as it was the only yarn I used to use at one time - it does still come up on ebay from time to time, though you can end up paying more than it cost new if there are a few people after it  Rolling Eyes Laughing

Jo when you made your Fern cardi can you remember if you got guage on the needles the patterns recommends as I would have to go down to 3.25mm to get 28 st rather than the 3.75mm (I get 24st with those, in the Inca Cloud anyway Confused )

Don't worry Jo, I never wear my knitteds without something underneath anyway  Wink and I don't think Glee is designed for wearing with nowt under it as it would be very revealing otherwise  Shocked  Wink  Laughing  Laughing

So Inca it is then!!

Ali, Artesano have 4ply alpaca and that might knit up to 28sts for you as I think the DK knits to 24 or 25sts?
pictish

I was thinking that!! It's strange the pattern has it knitting to 28st though Confused

I could always use some of my Jaeger Wink
Jobo

Ali - I have just looked at my pattern and it says 28 rows and 24 sts to 10cm.

I think this has been written differently to most patterns where they write the stitch count first, then the row count iyswim?

Therefore I think it should read

24 sts
and 28 rows to 10cm

I didnt have any problems - I knitted mine on 3.75 needles and got the 24 stitches OK.

Hope this helps Very Happy

Heehee Jo I've just realised that Laughing  Rolling Eyes I'm just used to seeing it the other way round!! 24st on 3.75mm is what I can get with the Inca Cloud so I should be ok Razz

Thanks for that Cool
Jobo

I'm used to seeing it the other way round as well Laughing

Just to say that I received Nevis' sample of Inca Cloud yesterday and it's sooooooo soft and the shade is gorgeous!

Thank you Hilary  Cool
