but is that because you spent all your time making jumper sized knitting. I am hoping to knit less socks next year and do more cardies.

If I can be so bold as to share my non-finished pairs of socks. Never have I been so proud to share my non-achievement with someone...
Here's one half finished toe up for me:
And 2/3 plus 1/3 of Katie's toe ups:
I really enjoy the idea of knitting socks but I just can't seem to finish them. I can do toe ups, top down, dpns, circs, two circs and yet I'm just not motivated to finish them! Even after my Eureka moment earlier this year when I discovered toe-ups, I thought this was it. Finally. But no! It is not meant to be.
However, I have discovered that sock yarn makes lovely scarves etc.. so at least there's still a place for sock yarn in my future! It's just not on my feet.

I think that's part of it yes!! Well you've seen how many WIPs I have But I DID want to knit some socks - I desperately need them - but have failed miserably
I just want to say thanks Anni too

I would say I have started about 10 or 12 socks maybe more this year without finishing a single one The house is littered with half-knitted sock cuffs

I have been thinking for a while about what sort of Pay it Forward gift I could offer so I have a suggestion.
For the first three people who PM me I will finish their half knitted pair of socks for them as early in the new year as I can.

Good idea.
Can't remember if I posted hte prize earlier or not. But the prize is a skein of bamboo sock yarn and merino sock yarn of your choice plus two patterns.
Now get confessing.

oh yes me too started an everyman pair in the Summer and knitted the first one up to the toe shaping last night did the toe shaping and finished off. Then discovered i had taken the rib right up to the shaping, anyway not changing it now. I did however cast on the other sock and have done about a dozen rows. Can't tell you many garments i have knitted in between these two socks!!!!!!!!

What a kind offer - I missed that sorry I AM however going to try and finish 3 of mine myself and then I'll frog the rest ready for a fresh start in 2008.

Well, I was going to nominate myself for the wooden spoon prize, as I have finished only one pair of Hederas and one pair of Father and Son socks in 2007, and it took me 9 months to complete the last pair, but having seen Pictish's confessions, I have to say that I think you are a more worthy contestant than I, Ali!
|
pictish
|
It's only for peops who don't finish ANY and I'm still hopeful I might finish a pair before midnight on Monday That would leave the field open
|
Wildpurl
|
LOL and if I finished a pair in the same time frame then I could enter the bronze category....
I might just go for it. I'm dying to make a pair of Anni's Snowflakes, and I just have a half knitted Knuck to complete.
I think a mad hopeless knitting challenge would be just the right note to end the year actually
|
pictish
|
Go on!!! It's worth a try
|
pictish
|
Well I think I AM still in this category cos I don't think a pair is going to be finished in the next 12 hours Oh the shame 14 half-finished socks
Next year will be different

What? 14 matching halves or another different 14
|
pictish
|
Just 14 plus 1 completed sock I think that's bad enough
They're all headed for the frog pond - apart from the ones I was trying to finish - in the next day or so and I'll start with a clean slate for 2008 Sockamonth

Are all these still on the needles...you must have lots of DPNs!!
|
pictish
|
Some are - and I do!!! but some are languishing needleless in sock bags poor little things

I was wondering if you had enough needles to accommodate 14 concurrent WIPS!
|
pictish
|
Not 14 sets no You see 4 sets of 5 gives you 20 needles = 6 sets of 3 plus 2 spare. Some are 2.5s and some 2.75s All perfectly sensible

But of course!!!

I think you're laughing at me
|
jacquie
|
Not at all (with face screwed up in that desperate to laugh but can't kind of way)
|
pictish
|
Well at least there's not 68 of them Now that really WOULD be something *wonders if that's a WIP world record*

OK The winner of the wonderful Wooden Spoon Prize kindly donated by Anni for not completing any socks at all in 2007 is....

OMG - I didn't think I would win. I thought that Pictish had beaten us all!
I don't think I've ever won a prize for non achievement before. Ain't life grand!
Thank you also Anni for your kind donation of the prize. I really didn't mean for anyone to step forward with a prize other than a wooden spoon! But obviously I'm very pleased, if a teensy bit embarrassed...

The winner was picked by the "husbandator" random name picker from all those put forward and was not based on the total level of non-achievement.
