Which lace weight and pattern?OK, I'm in need of a bit of help here. I want to try and knit something using laceweight yarn, but I'm not sure which sort to get. In the past I've only had success with jaggerspun zephyr wool/silk lace and CTH merino lace. Can anyone recommend anything? I hate slippy yarns and don't think I could manage with cobweb or really fine laceweight!!
Also, once I've got the yarn, I need to find a really easy pattern to do as I don't want to end up frogging and getting p****d off. I was thinking maybe a rectangular stole as I get bored with extra long rows, or one which you start off casting on hundreds of stitches but gets smaller as you knit along. But definately something with a repetitive pattern where I can use stitch markers as I can't manage lace without.
thanks.

What about the Woodland Shawl or one of Anne Hansons? She has some lovely little as well as big shawls/stoles

Hi CJ
How about some of Ilga Leja's most recent collection - they don't have to be done in laceweight so you could use 4ply or sock yarn instead http://www.woollyworkshop.co.uk/a...og/copy_of_Ilga_Leja_Designs.html
or Heartstrings - http://www.woollyworkshop.co.uk/acatalog/Scarves_and_Stoles.html
Suri Alpaca is nice to use http://www.woollyworkshop.co.uk/acatalog/Suri_Alpaca.html
You could also use Crystal Palace Kid Merino or Panda Silk

thanks you two.
funnily enough, DH has said he'll let me buy some laceweight when he gets paid on wednesday and it's a toss up now between the jaggerspun or CTH merino I think from you Gill. I'll have a look at the Ilja patterns too I think.
I'm just been hunting through my patterns and I have the creatures of the reef one I really like. Not sure how hard it is though.

PS, I have some yarn already lined up for the woodland shawl terri was kind enough to give me some of the 4ply the author used, so that's in my queue on rav too.
I just can't decide what to knit though - why am I so indecisive?

There is NO SUCH thing as too much yarn!!

I agree that a girl cannot have enough yarn!!! I just wish my stash were bigger, I've been getting stash envy looking at ravelry.

There will always be bigger and smaller stashes than ours, it is all relative.

I like my stash - I just wish I could get some more posh though, I'm far too slow on a sunday night.

well, I think I may have decided. Some CTH merino lace from WW, not sure which colour yet. And I might try the kimono shawl again from folk shawls or the leaf lace evelyn clark shawl.

I'm knitting Adamas Shawl by Miriam Felton. It's available as a free pattern from her online store. I think it might be a good pattern for you if you're looking for something you can learn after one chart repeat.

I meant you could finish what I had started lol

CJ

Oh right - no that's fine, cos the stuff I sent you was too fine for me to knit with. Unless you're bored with it.

no i'm not bored but it's getting longer and longer to finish a row, so i'm just doing it a bit at a time.
I hope you get on with the merino it looks delicious. Any ideas on colour yet or is another decision for another day

CJ

no, I still can't decide what colour to get. something light so I don't have problems with seeing the pattern, I think that's where I've been going wrong using dark yarns for lace.
I think either the cherry blossom or spring frost - maybe.

Good luck with your decisions CJ. I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide on. if you don't like slippy yarns avoid anything with silk.

CJ I quite like 'monet' and 'spring frost' too
|
CJ

well, I think it could be a coin toss tomorrow, spring frost or cherry blossom for sure
|

have you tossed your coin yet?
|
CJ

no need to toss a coin in the end when I went to order just now no cherry blossom, so I got the spring frost instead. DH refused to cough up the money like he promised, so I added a ball of the jaggerspun wool/silk in jade - and I've spent the money I'd saved for his wedding anniversary present.
