Where does it come from?I'm interested in these new 'eco' yarns by Rowan, Sirdar etc but......does any one know the country of origin? Where is it grown? spun? etc.
Am I being unreasonable in wanting to know if it is environmentally friendly in terms of miles travelled and people friendly in terms of fair conditions and wages for workers?
Just wondering...

The Sirdar one is spun in Germany I'm afraid, and the Kentish Romney wool used for Aragon's yarns is sent to Italy to be spun and dyed

Oh pooh!!!! There goes another good idea to save the planet sacrificed on the altar of commerce.
Thanks Glynis. Any idea where the Sirdar wool actually comes from - is it UK sheep?

The Sirdar ball says "Made for Sirdar under licence in Germany. Only natural products have been used in processing of this 100% wool"
You probably need Garthnor(sp?) for real British Eco wool

I've wondered this as well, been tempted to buy some to try but wanted to stay as close to home as possible for most of my yarn purchases. Havn't heard of the Garthnor website either will have to pop along and have a look.

Oh thank you for that Gill, I had forgotten about those. I've looked at them in your shop before and thought they looked interesting.
Thank you also to Claire for starting the topic.
There is also this site.
