What is Sirdar Spree like then????

Laughing Laughing Is it a bit like Rowans All Seasons Cotton? Is it like the Sirdar Breeze? I like the colours.
melody yarns

How funny, I just almost answered this on the other thread!

It's a bit like ASC and Breeze, it has 60% cotton content and is in 100g balls. It knits to 14sts x 19rows to 10cm and is soft and squidgy. I don't think you can go wrong at 69p a ball frankly. But that's just my opinion.... Wink
Seahorse

Not looking at Kemps by any chance, are you Ali???

Claire

It's FATAL, you know that. I looked last night and filled up my basket. Mind you, I got loads for my dosh. It would be silly not to.
pictish

I just worked out I need 5 balls for a long sleeved jumper - that's less than £3.50 Shocked Laughing It looks nice and squidgy Wink

ETA yes after seeing what Debs said on the other thread but hadn't looked till just now Laughing
Fi

Kemps are good for delivery too, but very tempting eh Debs.
melody yarns

Ooooh I should say so!!
cazzie

I've got some tucked away I got cheap off e-bay recently - I want to knit the cover jacket from Lacestyle in it.

Kemps sounds cheaper still - trots off to look Very Happy

Ooooh I LOVE that book Cazzie Razz I'm very tempted to get it - I've seen inside and it's got some lovely things in it - the one on the cover especially. It's fan and feather again - or is it feather and fan Rolling Eyes Laughing
cazzie

I succumbed and brought the book when it first came out - mainly for the cover design - it is a chunky feather and fan - dont know why I havent started it yet Laughing
pictish

There's a nice beige wrappy one I like as well Cool
melody yarns

Oooh i've seen that and I like the front cover design as well. I LOVE feather and fan at the moment Cool It's very easy to remember and looks difficult but isn't really. I have a feather and fan cardigan with short sleeves planned very shortly using the cotton I got from you Ali, the walnut Luxury Cotton DK Cool
cazzie

Pictish: The beige one is nice too - I love this book.

Melody yarns: I love feather and fan too - I love the Kim Hargreaves kit but 4 ply would take me forever - which pattern are you going to use for your cardigan? I've also a pattern pulled out of Womans Weekly for a stripy jumper in feather and fan but it is 4 ply again ...
pictish

I love feather and fan for the same reasons Laughing Cos I'm just a lace novice Razz But yes what is this cardi pattern you have??

Here are some more piccies inside Lace Style
cazzie

I also like the katharine hepburn cardigans (in red & gold on the 2nd preview page)...
melody yarns

It's a Sirdar pattern for Silky Look which is a few years old, but not too vintage Confused It's all feather and fan with garter stitch edges and a collar. I've been wanting to knit it for ages but never had anywhere to wear it, iyswim? I'll take a photo later this afternoon.
cazzie

Look forward to your piccie Very Happy

Have you seen the 'vintage' patterns that Natural Dye Studio sell - among then are ones that I knitted in the 80's Laughing (one being one of the picture jumpers)
malteser

I have just bought some Spree to knit that cardigan from the front of Lace Style. I had thought about doing it in Click but I need some summer cardiagans.

I had been trying to not buy anything by credit card or online in April and I nearly managed it - never mind it was a bargain even with postage.

I have a couple of things I want to buy in May but may try to limit myself especially with my Amazon/Book Depository habit
melody yarns

Which colour did you buy Anne? It is a tremendous bargain isn't it? I've had a squidge of Click in our LYS before it closed down and the Spree is much nicer in my opinion... but then I DO like a bit of cotton!

I've been showing the colours to John this afternoon, as I'd quite like to knit him a sweater in Spree cos it's chunky Wink , and one each for the boys as Matt will now accept cotton gracefully Laughing The trouble is that John likes the faded denim colour, and tundra and mocha...... Rolling Eyes
murdo

How much spree would you need for the jumper on front of Lace style....not that I am at all inerestedt
melody yarns

I don't have the book Murdo, so I'm unable to help you with that one. Maybe another person who has the book will be able to tell you how many metres you would need.

Spree has 136m per 100g ball.
cazzie

Hiya,

the jacket takes 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 balls of Takhi Kerry - which is 90yd / 82m per 50g.

Sizes are 33, 36, 39, 45.5, 48.5 inches

So between 738 and 1,148 m dep on size
If spree is 136m you would need 9 x 100g balls for largest size and 6 x 100g balls for smallest.

Hope this helps Very Happy
murdo

Thank you!!!!!
CJ

My mum recently knit herself a jacket type thingy in spree. She said it's quite heavy as a finished garment, but feels nice to wear, cos she's like me and can't wear wool!! She did say it splits like crazy when you knit with it though it could just be her!!!! Wink
Jo028

I've used it twice in the last few weeks. It knits to a nice even tension, it does split if you catch inbetween the threads, but I changed to blunter pins & it was fine. I'd liken the texture to Sirdar Luxury soft cotton, only thicker. I intend to make a me-sized zipped jacket in it & maybe something else, if they haven't sold out by now. Laughing So, all in all, at 69p a ball, I'd say go for it.
melody yarns

There was tucks of it yesterday Jo, honest!

But at 69p per ball it's a bargain. Did I say that already? Laughing

I'd better get some ordered for JC and the lads in case it all goes over the weekend if we're all after it Laughing
malteser

I got Mocha but it was a hard choice as I liked lots of the other colours. I quite fancied Tundra but Mocha won out in the end. I must admit I was lazy and just ordered 10 balls.
mogiebear

Embarassed I ordered Mocha too, but only 6 balls, and a pattern.
Jo028

Maybe we should all be spree-alonging then Very Happy I've got 6 balls of Mocha too, destined to be a zippy jacket for me.
franney

TSK! Someone bought all the mocha, but i was able to get some palm springs and pebble in spree, khaki in breeze and suede in romance! I just fell in love with the crochet patterns at Garnstudio Very Happy
seren

i second what cj said - it's very heavy when knitted up and does split quite a bit when knitting but it's soooo soft it's gorgeous. the only problem i've found is dh's jumper that i knitted with it grows because it's so heavy, so each time i wash it i tumble dry it and it goes back to the right size Laughing
pictish

Got some today and it's beautiful - lovely and soft and gorgeous colours Cool
