There's a discussion on Rav at the moment about Sirar Country Style DK vs Click DK and it got me thinking.... someone mentioned Stylecraft Life DK (I think it was Jo028 on here and on there iyswim??!) and I wondered how the Life and Wendy Mode DK stand up to washing and knitting and how well they compare to Sirdar Country Style and Click?

I find that Country Style pills really badly with me and thought that maybe Mode and Life would be okay for quick knits on the knitting machine? But how do they hold up to washing and wearing? I like Patons Diploma Gold DK but even that pills after a while Sad

Is wendy mode the one with merino content?...if so, I may just have some coming my way tomorrow. I've heard the mode washes well bu i've only used wendy aran before....although tbh honest i've washed my blue tree jacket loads and no pilling there....maybe wendy is different to sirdar (cos my purple has bobbled under the arms)

I've knitted with the Life but it was for a pair of gloves for... buggrit, i've forgotten! I think it was Linda?

and i'm halfway through another pair of gloves in it but i don't know what it's like for pilling Confused

The life dk is fabulous imo. My purple cardi looks as good as the day I made it, no pilling at all, is the same size, blah blah blah , you get my drift I think!!

I used Wendy Mode dk for my Ivy wrap cardi. It was beautuful to knit with, but I never got to wash it as it went to the charity shop as I hated the way it fitted (or didn't in my case) so can't comment on its' life expectancy!

I would never use countrystyle again & would think long & hard before using Click, it may have been the knitting with black that I hated rather than the yarn iyswim?

I knitted a pair of socks for DS1 in the Stylecraft lite.

They have washed brilliantly and not pilled.

I thought they would cos he wears them in his cadet boots and sometimes as slipper socks so they get plenty of wear.

Its good value at about £1.99 a ball for 100g, comes in some lovely shades too.

They do aran and chunky as well.

Hmmmm, I might have to try the Stylecraft Life range. I'd like to find a good, acrylic mixture yarn for knitting up quick and economical stuff on the knitting machine as the machine literally eats yarn! I want it for day to day hoodies and cardioes, that sort of thing. I've noticed that THe Black Sheep have the Stylecraft range for £1.79 a 100g ball and that's god value if ever I saw it!
