well i've made a blog......and a post.
Linz's knitting spot
Ok so it's not exciting or anything but i'm sure it will get better (it can't get worse, only neglected )
Hopefully, you guys will give me some pointers in the right direction and I will try and post more frequently
All I need to do is add a few buttons...but that will be next week

My idea was that if I had a blog I'd spend less time annoying everyone here and annoy blogland instead in reality it just means I spend even more time on the computer than ever!
It's looking very good Linz - and I like the background.

I've used Bloglines/Blogrolling etc but I hate that they don't/won't tell you when your favourite blogs have updated. This information tells you which you need to read first
Technorati does it for you.............puts your list of fav blogs in order of 'freshness' and give you the whole code to add to a widget.
I'm really pleased................. http://technorati.com/

Actually with Bloglines you can install a notifier that lets you know when something has been updated. It sits at in your system tray in the bottom right hand corner and beeps at you now and again.

Yes Jacquie but it's complicated for us who are not great at this WWW business.
I gave up trying...............

The blogroll notifier that Jacquie mentions is very easy to instal. It is an opportunity for you to tell blogrolling to automatically flag any blogs that have been updated recently.
It is a handy function for when you're short on time and you only want to read recent entries on a favourite blog. It can be any combination of characters (alpha, numeric etc..)
If you or anybody else wishes to try it out, here's a brief tut:
1. Log into your blogrolling account. This will take you to the control panel which is called 'Mission Control' in blogrolling.
2. Click on PREFERENCES and scroll down to the paragraph beginning RECENTLY UPDATED.
3. To activate this feature, you need to select a DURATION from the drop down menu. If you want to read blogs that have been updated as recently as 30 mins ago then choose 30 MINUTES from the drop down menu. If you don't log onto your blog regularly, you might want to choose a later duration.
4. Decide what you want to use as a NOTIFIER. Whatever you choose, remember it will appear on you blog beside the name of the blogs that you are 'watching'; whether it appears in front or after each updated blog depends on which box you type it in the top or bottom box.
Here are some examples of notifiers that bloggers use:
L@@K
Updated
New
**New
^^
5. All that's left to do is click on UPDATE MY BLOGROLL PREFERENCES (I think a simple SAVE would have worked here, don't you?) and voila, job done.
I'm not sure how quickly Blogroll updates your blogroll preferences - whether it's instant or whether it takes 24 hours. So don't worry if you don't see your notifier beside the blog links on your blog.
Hope somebody finds this helpful! I'll be posting it on the K1B2 blog too as there's bound to be members of the ring that don't know about this feature yet.

Oh blimey I don't do anything like that - I've just made a list of blogs I like to read and read them periodically, that's a bit hit and miss isn't it .
No wonder it all takes me so long

CraftyBernie I had Blogrolling and it notified for a short time but it stopped notifying for some reason, it was frequently mentioned on their forum. http://forums.blogrolling.com/viewtopic.php?t=4189 When they did work they didn't show sites like Jacquie's .................
I tried to swap over to Bloglines but found for me that the interface was so dissimilar and for me user unfriendly that I couldn't even find the page to set up a list. I'm not stupid at all but I gave up and moved on. Life is too short.
I had trimmed my list accordingly but now I'm able to add more blogs
I also tried Bloglinx but it was Beta and not what I was looking for....
When I found Technorati it had it all. The link at the top takes me to all recent updates and I can read them in one place and comment on the ones I need to or want to. The only blog that doesn't update at the moment is PLs because her first post is September 2007, I don't mind checking one blog manually.
Horses for courses......................but there is more than one option out there...................

Congrats on your new blog Adding it to my Bloglines too.
Thanks for the info on Technorati gilraen, I am off to have a look at that. I didn't know what it was for! I'm happy with Bloglines TBH but it doesn't hurt to have another source.

I agree with Gilraen - Technoriati is very good. Doesn't it allow you to see a snapshot of the updates on your blogroll? Anyway, it was my first choice when I started.
But I switched to blogrolling late last year. I preferred not having to navigate away from my blog to log on to Technorati, in order to be able to read the updates. But as they say, it's horses for courses!!
