VLT Sampler Shawl - Progress

As I managed to pick my needles up for this after feeling guilty as I'd finished Swallowtail & started Hanami... I thought I'd take a photo and give it a post of it's own... I managed to do a whole 14 rows last night and do pattern G Shocked

there are more details & photos on my blog
franney

Oh WOW! Shocked That looks beautiful, i am so going to have to get that book Very Happy
gilraen

Beautiful! Smile

Do you have to write the pattern from the book or can you just follow it all in your head? Smile

I copied the charts and enlarged them and I work from those.... if it's a small pattern rpt then I can remember it if not I tend to follow the chart as I work... I can't really read my knitting and work out what the knitting should be doing next but I can tell if I'm going wrong along a row once the pattern is establised....make sense?
gilraen

Am I right in thinking those charts only show the knit side? Not the purl side?
LittleBerry

no, these have blank rows for the purl side (I prefer it like that rather than showing all WS only) however patterns D & E are patterned on both sides Shocked
gilraen

Oh thanks for that! Smile
Binty

That is lovely, you are so clever to be able to do something like that.
CJ

that's gorgeous, and on my list now too Wink
Nanatoo

ChattyJo

Oh, that is just beautiful.I like the idea of different patterns all the time. I love this book - it's taking me ages to decide what to begin next!
KnittingLadybird

so are you just making it up as you go along then? I mean, are you choosing what goes next?

I'm so impressed with that .
pictish

Nope, theres a list of which pattern & how many repeats of it then you get to the end of the list and it says work the above list in reverse for the 2nd half of the shawl.....
LittleBerry

Very Happy I have had a really good day knitting this on and off in between gardeing, dog walking & meal making.....
LittleBerry

as you can see I have made serious progress (this photo carries on from the last one) in the last couple of days with which I am so pleased and relieved I was beginning to think it was going to be one of those must do's..... I have decided though it is going to be kept for weekend only knitting, when I''ve finished work & done my chores & my time is my own....

This is the main body of the shawl - COMPLETE !!!!!

It's taken me 4 months but it feels like longer....... Just the edging to go now, which I'm not even thinking about tackling until weekend, even then I might give myself another week off.
n

Gosh, you are very clever. The thought of knitting something like that makes me come over all wobbly (and not just the flabby bits either).

LittleBerry

it's just practise n and I've discovered that I develop patience doing this sort of thing... but start with smaller things and work bigger.... I feel like you when I see some of the other projects on other blogs I read such as the patterns from Sharon Miller.... which tend to be Knitted lace rather than lace knitting.... the thought of having no rest rows fills me with dread, but not as much as it used too....

I've ordered a copy of the Princess shawl which will be due out in November.... I was talking to missalicefaye about it saying I don't know when I'll be ready to tackle it and she was very encouraging, so perhaps I'm thinking yes by November I may be able to tackle it with the help of friends......
LittleBerry

tis finished...... Very Happy
gilraen
