Lucky you!! I would love that book Razz

Noooooooo! I have been waiting for mine from amazon for an age!
Piglottie

I'm hoping mine arrives soon, as I ordered it from the Book Depository on Tuesday Smile

Nanatoo - can you cancel? The Book Depository are selling it cheaper and with free postage.
Nanatoo

If it doesn't come in the next few days I will PL. First it was coming by 1st June I think and now they estimate by 7th. *chews fists* It's so close I'm loathe to cancel as it might come any time. Thanks though Smile
LittleBerry

much as I love the VLT book IMHO I wouldn't necessarily say it's good for a first project.....

For a 1st project Fiber Trends patterns esp the Evelyn Clark ones are excellent as she recommends yarns that are available here or patterns are done in a range of weights. The biggest + with these patterns is that whilst you have a chart you have written instructions also so you can read the chart and then check you're right with the txt until you feel comfortable with the charts only, they really do make life a lot easier with lace, this is how I learnt "lace speak" my first project was Estonian Garden Scarf

Me too me too..................I failed miserably, and I'd done lace like Branching out, Monkey Socks etc before................but then everyone knows I failed miserably at this book, despite joining two KAL blogs for it. Embarassed

I didn't know about your failure Gilraen.... is that because I don't pay enough attention???? (She says sitting here having polished off a glass of wine and with an MP3 player belting Simon and Garfunkel's "Bookends" album in her ears) ????? Rolling Eyes Question

Gilraen perhaps get the FT leaf lace shawl I still have it to do and have some Rowan 4ply soft to do it.....

I'm no expert at all but if you want any help give me a shout.....

I find as well (not trying to tread on any toes) but people tend to get seduced by the fine laceweight yarn and it can be off putting to handle when knitting so I always suggest start with sock/4ply and work downwards or if you have a fine yarn that you have sufficient off, work it double that way you can get used to the stitches then work a bit finer... I still find it awkward when I pick up fine yarn to work with and takes me a while to get used to it... when talking to people I find the one thing that puts them off starting lacework is "but the ayrn is so fine"...

I have three quarters of a Forest Canopy sitting OTN, but I also know that this is because I am so darned busy and there are not enough hours in the day.... this will change soon. I do love the book though, and as a designer (ahem, Embarassed ) of yarn I need to know what all the knitters are talking about....

I've cast on and am working through the excellantly explained instructions on the Forest Canopy Shawl in Posh Emily. Smile

Thank you so much for the offer of help....... Very Happy
Piglottie

I think the Forest Canopy Shawl is an excellent place to start for anyone wanting to knit lace. Like LittleBerry says, its in 4ply/sock yarn and the instructions are brilliant. Smile

FC is a good one for starting too I only actually did that one in March it was my first triangular shawl..... I did mine in Jojoland Melody....
ClaireUK

I agree with Littleberry. Working with laceweight is a completely different experience. I have had to start off with sockyarn, then 3 ply etc and work my way down in needle and yarn sizes. It affects tension as well and my hands ached when I first tried smaller needles too.

My copy of VLT arrived today and I dont think I have ever been so impressed with a knitting book. It is truly stunning! There are loads of patterns, with a great deal of variety. The photography is amazing, and there is so much information in there. Even MrP was impressed Smile I love this book and there are quite a few patterns already that I want to knit (must hurry up with the WIPs) Highly recommended if you haven't already got it Smile
