Vanessa-alongI've just cast on the stitches to knit Vanessa from RYC Classic Art, and Gilraen also showed interest, so anyone up for a Vanessa-along? It should keep me on the straight and narrow and there's a chance I'll get it done if I '-along' too!
and the link for RYC Classic Art is:
Classic Art
There are some stunning designs in this book.

Isn't that a lovely feminine pattern.

I love that pattern!!!!! I don't have the book though and not sure I can resist the temptation to put yarn in my virtual basket aswell if I go ahead and buy

That is lovely but I am refusing to look at any more things. I will stand by and watch the finished things roll in.

I've done about 2cm on the ribbing for the back, and I'm very pleased with it. I haven't been able to face needles and yarn much this week though
It's not very exciting to look at - just 2cm of 2x2 rib in blue Denim Tweed
gilraen
I ordered the book from McADirect as it has free shipping for items over £5. That way I wasn't tempted to order more to justify the shipping.
I'll start this when it comes.

What very good thinking - I must remember that

Yeah! Right!

My book arrived this morning! I'm free to start. I'm going to use the Jaeger Trinity that Pictish sent me.
Any tips from someone who started already? Debs?
ps must check I have 3.25mm needles Yep checked I have 2 pairs, phew!

Oh that is so pretty and feminine as Aknita said. And I have some Jaeger Trinity, although earmarked for something else. And I don't have the book, although it looks like that is easily corrected.
Oops, all this lovely spring and summer stuff is filling me with a desire to pu winter things aside...

I love that pattern, might just have to buy it and the yarn to knit it.

No tips as yet Gilraen! I'm only about a third of the way up the ribbing though
One thing I might do is get the front done first as opposed to the back, as I can see that I'll have row tension issues as I used a different double knitting yarn and it knits to 28 rows to 10cm.
All in all I think it's a very straight forward knit though
gilraen
Okay thanks. I started the back but had to frog it already!!! I ended up with half rib/half basket weave
YarnAddict

Ooohh, that's gorgeous. Wonder if it'd fit my Vanessa. Although the v-neck may be too deep for her. Wouldn't suit me butperhaps I'll think about joining the KAL and doing it for Vanessa.

I won't be wearing it on its own Anni don't worry! - I'll be wearing a jersey cami or vest top under mine, and wearing it like a sweater rather than a top

I finished the 15cm of ribbing last night and now I'm on the stocking stitch of the back. It's coming along nicely
I'll take some photos tomorrow when its brighter

I cast on again and have done about half of the ribbing. Nothing yet worth photographing yet.
Way to go Debs.

Way to go for casting on again Gilraen! I though I was in this KAL on my own until you popped in just! I'm glad to have some company!

Well, I was going to knit this as well, but my MIL has just made off with the last of my DK, after my mum had snaffled a load on Tuesday. So, I've got to save up for some more now!!
Looking forward to piccies.

Are you just giving away your stash CJ???
melody yarns
My mum does that too - she says "Oooh I'd like to knit myelf such and such a thing, but I can't buy wool from anywhere where we live because there are no wool shops"
Well there are, cos Knit 2 Together, the retail shop of Cucumberpatch is only about ten miles away if that
So she always goes through my yarns. My MIL was just the same though, I used to lose a load of stash whenever she came to visit us.
CJ
Glad I'm not the only one who seems to loose stash, Debs. Didn't want to give stash away Ali, it just seems to go whenever I have relatives here. I should learn to say "no, trog off and get your own stuff!!!"

Tell them to order online. I'm taking my mum to GK in May when she comes. She needs some stash enhancing. Of course I won't be buying anything!!!

Progress so far this week
I've been doing some work on my LH 'Tide' cardigan though, as suddenly I only have the two fronts to do and they're whizzing along really quickly.
At this rate, I might have a few sweaters and cardigans for this summer !
gilraen
Looking good!!
I'll post pics later of mine.

In Jaeger Trinity/Powder that I bought from Pictish, thus making room for her win at Jannette's
At least that is my excuse

They're both so pretty. I'd be tempted to join but I have enough on my plate and I can't knit very much at the moment anyway, so daren't even add to my stash!

They look great.
I was wondering what the Trinity yarn was like? Is it soft, or cotton like ? I have not seen it in real life before!

It was awful to knit with at first, having been used to sock yarn! But it is fine now and it drapes beautifully and is also light. It has a little papery feel to it and I'm wondering it that is temporary?
The yardage is great. I havent yet finished the first ball and I'm well into the decreases for the sleeves.

Trinity is nice. I have a few packs in my stash that I bought from Janette's recently and it feels like raw silk to me.
I love your Vanessa Gilraen - you'll be finished way before me I can see!!
PS - I hope you're feeling better soon, this bug is really horrid...

I'm feeling way better, thanks Have you recovered completely Debs?
I've finished the back. I am going to start on the front now.

I'm just about up to the armpits on mine although i've been back at work this week and so haven't got a huge amount of knitting done in the evenings, and i've been trying to finish of Tide Your Vanesaa is looking very nice indeed and the colour is superb!!
Gilraen, I'm competely better now thanks. The penicillin worked its magic as usual, and I'm back on top (?) form.....

A bit more done on this.

It's looking fabulous Gilraen - I REALY like that.

I have some RYC cashsoft I could use - I have a pack of 10 balls so should be plenty. Isn't it fab that Knitting from Stash doesn't mean you can't buy pattern books - this will be on my shopping list at GK :0

I've had to abandon my Vanessa this week in favour of Tide as Tide is almost done
I bought some Sirdar Silky Look in Peacock to knit Vanessa in as well, and I've got some squidgy, soft, black Patons Chantal yarn (vintage from stash!) for a winter, Christmassy version too. Knitted in different yarns and different colours changes its appearance and functionality I think.
gilraen
I agree Debs. Any pics of Tide yet?

I'm almost up to the armhole shaping on the second front Gilraen, and the sleeves are already done along with the back - so not much longer now! I shall take a piccie for my blog later on this afternoon as I wrote my draft blog entry in WordPerfect at 1am last night/this morning for today's entry
Time is running away with me at the moment - it will Autumn before I know it at this rate.

That looks lovely Gilraen. I also have some Trinity, which I bought to make another Ivy with, it does look lovely knitted up. Oh dear, what to start....
gilraen
I've finished the front and back and started the sleeves and I am still only on the 3rd ball. 4 balls might do it. I'm knitting 38 chest size.

It does look lovely, looking forward to the finished pics. I've nabbed a bag of Trinity in Wisteria, it's the most gorgeous pale lilac
Anna
I love 'Vanessa', sadly I don't like anything else in the pattern book so probably won't be buying it I do wonder, though, if it would look nice in the new Baby Bamboo? Perhaps I could be tempted
gilraen
It would look lovely in the new Baby Bamboo. I will be knitting this again. Anna I could lend you my book if you only wanted to knit Vanessa?
I've knitted as far as I can now, without sewing up. I tried sewing up the shoulders last weekend but ended up having to rip back and in the process cut the top of the back and had to redo it. No great problem in itself as I was much neater the second time around. I'm not a great finisher..........Any tips with Trinity, it's not smooth yarn so difficult to frog and I'm finding it difficult to get it to look satisfactory when sewn.......
The only change I made to the pattern was I doubled the length of ribbing on the sleeves so that they 'matched' better the long ribbing on the body.
melody yarns
Gilraen you could use a matching yarn to sew up Vanessa with, or a matching 4 ply perhaps?
Your Vanessa is looking GORGEOUS by the way - now that Tide is finished (well, the knitting ) I shall have more time to dedicate to my Vanessa
We want modelled pics obviously though.....
gilraen
A matching yarn? Umm not sure I have any I'll look.
Thanks. Modelled pics are very expensive
pictish
That is going to look beautiful
cazzie
That will look fab
melody yarns

Gilraen I'm not sure I have any matching yarn myself... but I'll have a scrounge round today to see if I do; pale blue cotton 4 ply would be perfect I think.
If I have any, I'll be happy to send you some in the post.
Modelled pics very expensive indeed....
gilraen
I have to check my Baby cashmerino stock, it may yield something
Thank you for the offer, even if you find a good match I don't mind buying a ball of something as I have at least 5 balls of Trinity left to something else
Jo028
That's looking great. I've succumbed & got the book & the yarn, but a bit undecided on it, it might be baby bamboo.
Anna
That would be great, gilraen. I've pm-ed you
Wildpurl
That looks lovely Gilraen, I have exactly that shade of Trinity myself, although I'm going to do a different pattern with it, and it looks gorgeous knitted up.
I fancy that Wisteria one as well, oh Janette is an evil woman, her shop will be my downfall for sure...LOL
gilraen
I know exactly what you mean about Janette's
What pattern are you going to do Carola?
Wildpurl
I bought mine to do a summer version of Ivy (from Knitty), which is actually quite similar to Vanessa although with long sleeves, and now I have a pattern called Ribby Shell from Chicknits which I think will look lovely in this, so I am going to do that first.
I have succumbed to some more Trinity from Janette, but I have gone for the Clay colour, I am just wondering whether I should buy the Wisteria as well....it is a bargain. It would save on postage, too.
melody yarns
Oooh I've got the Ribby Shell pattern too!! In fact I've got most of the Chicknits patterns
Wildpurl
What excellent taste you have Debs
And I've now got some Wisteria Trinity as well.
Think I'd better put the PC away and go and do some actual knitting.
cazzie

I think a few of us succumbed to Trinity from Jeanette (I have Cornus & Thrift) - must not go back and check out anymore colours

Well, I've ordered the Rowan book for this pattern, as I really like it, and I now have enough Trinity to knit six of them I think! I love yours, Gilraen, did I miss a finished pic? I'll go and look in the Look what I made section just in case. I won't be starting exactly immediately, mind you!
melody yarns
It's a lovely pattern to knit Carola - really quite relaxing knitting as it's mainly stocking stitch except for that massive rib section
I've done the back of mine and one sleeve is nearly fnished.
I'm knitting mine in Sirdar Denim Tweed DK that I got as a bargain pack from Abakhan Fabrics on holiday in 2005. It's lovely stuff to knit with too and I'm already thinking about buying another colour to knit another Vanessa.
gilraen

No Carola, I'm frantically trying to finish another knit (Lola) incase I need more Lion and Lamb and the same dyelot..................
I've still to sew this up but the weather doesn't make me hurry

I bought the book and then realised I already had the pattern in Knitting/Simply knitting (can't remember which).
I've finished mine in lime Wendy pearl dk - should get a picture taken tonight.

Mogie's is lovely isn't it? Gorgeous colour, I'm tempted myself!

I'm sooo tempted to cast on for Vanessa - using some Jaeger Trinity

It does look gorgeous in the Trinity too. Mine is going to be in the stuff used in the pattern in a bright pink

Well my yarn and pattern have arrived but I have a problem - the size which fits round my chest - 34" - is far too small round my tum I am fairly - well definitely!! - pear shaped and this size is about 31" at the edge and I am about 37" there Do you think if I start 2 sizes up and decrease down in the rib then increase up to 34" gain I'll be ok?
Where do they get these measurements for average body sizes from? How many people with a 34" chest have a 31" tummy?? Maybe I'm just a little fatty Well I DO need to lose weight I know
gilraen
I'm shaped like you Ali. Size 16 waist, size 12 hips and size 14 bust I hate buying clothes and rarely buy a dress unless it's being made for me.
pictish
Well I'm not so bad with bought tops but have great trouble with trousers and skirts
What did you do for this pattern then gilraen?
gilraen
I knit it. I'll have to manage the consequences of any problems later
cazzie
Have to admit that its my tum that has stopped me casting this on so far as much as I like it - its between knitting Vanessa or a wrap top?
pictish
It's written for a very small waisted person - at least in my size. I wonder how Debs has got on with hers. At least with a wrap you've got a bit of leeway
melody yarns
I never even thought about the waist measurement! Although the waist is 2x2 rib so it should be fairly stretchy. Shouldn't it?
I suppose I will find out when I try it on when it's sewn up; I'm knitting the 36" version, but I think it will fit okay as I think my waist is about right for the rest of me. Hopefully! *crosses fingers*
mogiebear
I knitted the 36, even though I measure at least 38 up top. Goodness knows what my tummy measures, but the rib manages to encompass it!
pictish
Oh well maybe I'll be ok then and the rib will stretch .
pictish
I cast on last night for this after Mr Pictish rubbished my candlewick cardi and it IS tiny but I'm hoping it will stretch and I AM meant to be losing weight The Luxury Cotton is funny stuff - it feels as tho it has linen in it - it's a bit stiff and VERY splitty but looks nice and I love the strawberry or rose colour I've got which for some reason known only to Rowan is called 'Slipper'

Very neat Ali and I love the colour.
At this rate everyone will be finished before me.... argh!!
