Twilleys Freedom Spirit wrapover cardy

I have a vague recollection of a couple of other people having this OTN or planned, so wondered if anyone might be up for a KAL? Or, in my case, more of a moral-support-to-get-the-thing-finished-a-long Rolling Eyes

So far I've got the back and both fronts done, so just the sleeves to do. But I already know that I'm going to need a definite shove to knit the 3 yards or so of border/tie over 7 stitches Rolling Eyes, and another to sew it on Laughing

Anyone else in on this one?
pictish

I didn't know you were doing this one too - sneeeeeky Surprised I'm getting the wool from cazzie for this soon and MIGHT be casting on Wink But for me it will be a WISP rather than WIP knowing me!! Blossom is doing it as well tho FC I think Cool And I think Terri has got it OTN I think Razz

What colour you doing?
FatCat

who are you calling sneaky? Wink I've had it OTN since before Christmas but kept getting distracted (or enabled) into other projects. Plus I had to frog the back halfway through because my tension was way out. It's a pain to frog btw Rolling Eyes

Mine's in Earth. And it's definitely a WISP!
Blossom

Yup I'm still plodding along! Laughing I have done the back, one front and one sleeve....so just another sleeve and a front to do!! Laughing This is my daytime project since I started doing Rogue in the evenings...BUT it has been rather cast aside what with Sockamonth socks, hats and dishcloths...but hopefully in a few weeks...or after the February Sockamonth..I'll get back to it! Smile Like you FC I am not looking forward to the blooming tie! Laughing
pictish

Well mine's just arrived so just going to look at the pattern to see what size will stretccchhhh over my fat tum Embarassed Laughing And might be casting on. Mine is in the Soul shade which you can see in the Craft Market Cool
malteser

I have finished the back of this. I agree it is a pain to frog as I ripped out my first attempt at the back as there was no way I would get into it.

I offered to knit my mum a cardigan for her birthday and I have a baby cardigan to knit so this might get put aside for a bit alongside my B de F jumper.

pictish

It seems to come out VERY small Evil or Very Mad Or is it just me?? I couldn't get the tension right on 4mm so am going up to 4.5mm but the ribbed bit is tiny in size 36" and so have gone up to a sze 38" - a bit bigger than my jubblies Shocked but it might fit across my middle now Rolling Eyes Wink These designers think we're all shaped like Jordan with big boobs and tiny waists and hips Evil or Very Mad .
FatCat

The Soul shade is lovely, that's what it's pictured in in the book isn't it? I'm also on 4.5mm, 4mm was way out! The ribbing comes out quite narrow and had me worried for a while but it's really stretchy. I'm on the second size up, and I'm 99.9% sure it'll fit me ... but I''m not Jordan-shaped either, more fried eggs than jubblies Rolling Eyes

So that's four of us in so far, woohoo!
pictish

Have frogged AGAIN Rolling Eyes And am now banishing the nasty big rib and going for just a little 4 row rib then straight into st st Cool But still doing the big jubbly size!!

Souls IS the colour it's knitted in FC and its lovely - such a mix of pretty colours. It's got lots of ORANGE in it Shocked and that's not normally something I go for but it looks great Razz
FatCat

oh no! Almost a plague of frogs! Sad But it sounds like you've got it sorted Very Happy

Cor, the Soul sounds lovely! I really like the way the Earth is knitting up (LOL! knitting with planets, now there's a thought Laughing ), quite a lot of orange in it too. I'll try to post a pic later. Got some Essence in the stash as well, for one of tank tops Very Happy
Blossom

I'm doing the very biggest size and I must say I'm a bit worried about the sizing...I hate hate hate the 30 odd rounds of horrid rib on everything...it takes so long!! Smile I managed to get my tension right on 4mm...but if it's a tight fit I shall block it to within an inch of it's life!! LMAO! Laughing
pictish

Ooooh like Essence too Very Happy - well I think I wouldn't mind ANY of them Rolling Eyes I've got some Fire in stash for the tunic but fancy a tank top in that too - may have enough left in the Soul too. The colours are beautifully put together and it's really good value wool. You can make the tank in my size for about £10 Cool

I'll try and take a piccy soon when it gets lighter here Wink
FatCat

I really like the ribbing Embarassed

here's the back of mine - light enough here for photos and thought I'd do it now while the forum's still fast Very Happy

pictish

That's beautiful - I LOVE that colour Cool

You see by the shape of it tho it's upside down for me Laughing Laughing
FatCat

LOL! Laughing *picks toast crumbs out of keyboard. again!*

Ribbing. Stretchy. At least, that's what I'm pinning my hopes on Very Happy
pictish

Not enough for my tum Laughing Laughing Anyway have taken a pic but there's not much to see as yet - only done about 2" but photobucket is down - will get it up here as soon as poss. I think I might have problems with a curly edge - there's a reason for all that ribbing you see Cool
FatCat

I've just uploaded into photobucket Confused How weird.

I have blocked the back of mine, it was very curly before. Although not the ribbing, admittedly Very Happy
Aknita

FatCat it's looking lovely! And Ali - what are you like? Laughing Diane from Clinette was wearing one of these at the Worskhop and it looked lovely, hers was a bluey colour possibly air
pictish

The colours are just beautiful aren't they.

Photobucket is doing some site maintenance still Twisted Evil Let's hope the fuorum keeps going a while Wink
pictish

FINALLY!!!!

It's actually a bit brighter than it looks here - and I LOVE it - I think you might have gathered that by now Wink

Aknita

Oh isn't that pretty! I really like that. It's actually quite reasonbly priced isn't it............. *wishes she'd never looked* - I'll have to look at this at the next knit and natter evening 10% off and no p&p
cazzie

Looking good Pictish and Fatcat Very Happy
Blossom

If you get it from Em's Stitches it is cheaper than any other place online (I think it was about £2.10 a ball as opposed to nearly £3!!)...and you get free P&P! Laughing (I'm NOT enabling!! Twisted Evil )

I thought I'd take a pic of mine so far too...the back, a front and a sleeve! I'm quite pleased with it..the only thing I'm a little concerned about is how much stripier the sleeves are! Laughing Confused Mine is in Force...

Click for a bigger pic! Smile

Have you seen the new shades for Winter on GK??! I rather like the Calm shade! Smile
KnittingLadybird

Freedom spirit new colours...just wondered if any of you had seen the new colours... Wink
CJ

they're all looking lovely. Very Happy
pictish

It's gorgeous Sarah Very Happy I think it varies quite a bit in the way it knits up and I suppose with the sleeves having a smaller number of stitches it affects it quite a lot. But I think it will look fine. I like the randomness of it.

And I like ALL the new colours too Rolling Eyes It's lovely to knit with - very soft. And I was thinking it would be a spring thing but I imagine it's actually going to be very warm and snuggly.

There's a lovely tank top in this month's Knitting in it - very like the Twilley's one but longer. The tank only takes a few balls Joy if you don't want to spend much. And I think there are some new patterns. Ems have one for a one with a sweetheart neckline that's nice Very Happy
Aknita

Thanks Ali - and Blossom! Yours is looking lovely Sarah - and I expect the other sleeve will look the same so it'll look as though that's how it's meant to be!
KnittingLadybird

Everyones is looking beautiful btw....and again, how quick are you lot...there's going to more wrap cardigans than hoodies Wink (ok so maybe not lol)
Seahorse

Ooer... somewhere else I shouldn't have looked! Laughing

They're all so gorgeous. Blossom - I love your knitting holders! Laughing

Claire
Wildpurl

They all look great, and I do like the colours of this yarn.
I'm thinking of using it for a future Ivy, as I like the shape of that a little more than the Twilleys own design.
pictish

Would be lovely as Ivy I agree Very Happy
FatCat

ooh, hadn't thought of using it for Ivy (another project on my wish list ... ) Hmmm, thanks for that idea!

Cor, Blossom and Pictish, yours are both looking great! All such lovely colours Very Happy
malteser

They all look great.

Mine is in Force as well. I hadn't thought to do it on 4.5 needles.... but I didn't bother doing a swatch. I had to move up from the 36" chest as well.

Soul looks good and I like Essence and Air and...

Which issue of Knitting is that Pictish? Any chance it's still in the shops? Sounds good Very Happy
CJ

my mum's lent me the pattern, I like the longer length. Not going to be doing mine in twilleys though, too fluffy for me. So on the hunt for a nice sub. Very Happy
pictish

It's the current one FC and my Newsagent had 2 this afternoon - Feb issue - it's just come out I think and you can se a tiny pic of it at top left here but AY and GK have only got the Jan issue still Confused
FatCat

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out for it Very Happy
pictish

Kemps are doing the wool for £2.10 I think - something like that and Ems do it for £2.60 with free postage. Thought you might like to know that. All this talk of it and I've just enabled myself again and got some :bluewink:
Seahorse

Ooh - off topic but is that a knitted Love Heart I can see on the cover of the mag Ali?

Claire
pictish

Yes it IS Cool It's a love heart pillow made in Stylecraft Babysoft Aran and Special DK.
FatCat

ahem, Ali, got some what, exactly? WE NEED DETAILS! Very Happy

Although I have to confess I've just been looking at the new shades Embarassed I like Heaven and Bliss. Passion looks quite similar to Earth? Confused Perhaps not, difficult to tell from t'internet pics Very Happy
pictish

I got some more of the Twilley's in Fire to do the tank top from Knitting Embarassed Laughing
Seahorse

Quote:
Yes it IS Cool It's a love heart pillow

*faints* I'm having a really kitsch phase just now so that'll be me trampling old ladies down to get the mag first thing tomorrow!

[in the style of the Fast Show] Love Hearts! Brilliant!

Claire
pictish

They are VERY kitsch for sure Cool Laughing
FatCat

Now I'm definitely going to have to get it - I want the love heart pillow too!

More Fire? Excellent choice Very Happy I think there might possibly be a Twilley's tank top KAL in the near future ... Cool
Jobo

I might be up for that one Fatcat - and I haven't worn a tank top since the 70's Rolling Eyes Maybe its time for me to get trendy again eh? Laughing
pictish

Definitely Cool
pictish

Just realised we didn't have a link to the pattern - so here it is for those who haven't been captivated by it yet Laughing Wrap cardi
FatCat

well, all the main bits are done, and I've done about half of the right tie/neckband so the end is in sight. So just the sewing up to do Rolling Eyes Actually I'm quite excited about finishing this, haven't made a proper garment with sleeves etc for ages!

Sorry, the colours haven't come out very well in this, I was trying to get all the pieces in, as proof!! Laughing
pictish

Wow!! You've been sneakily doing this quietly FC Twisted Evil Laughing It's going to be gorgeous Razz Can't wait to see it finished and on Wink
FatCat

Thanks! I hope it's going to be gorgeous, hope my sewing doesn't let it down. (don't like sewing, nasty sewing Evil or Very Mad )

And I didn't mean to be sneaky Wink it's fairly straightforward and stocking stitch so easy to do in front of the telly without having to concentrate very hard Very Happy

How's yours going? I notice you haven't said .... Wink Very Happy
pictish

That's cos I haven't been knitting it Laughing Laughing Laughing Keep starting new things Rolling Eyes But I was only kidding Cool I hate sewing too - and picking up for bands Twisted Evil Twisted Evil I have a DB cardi that has been in the WIP bag about 2 months waiting for it's band Embarassed
FatCat

LOL, I suspected as much Wink I know what you mean, I've plenty of other things languishing - Rogue for example Rolling Eyes - and I have this habit of casting on something new if I feel like it.

Only 2 months? That's nothing! Mind you, I posted up today as incentive to get this finished because I'm sorely tempted to put all the pieces in a bag and leave them somewhere out of sight. But now you all know so I'm going to have to get on with it Laughing
Aknita

Now then FatCat - you have all weekend and I expect to see a finished article piccy first thing Monday morning.

Looking fab btw!
FatCat

Yes Mum Embarassed Wink Laughing

Will I be punished severely if I don't get it done by Monday ...? Wink
pictish

Yes we're just going to keep bugging you about it now Twisted Evil Laughing Laughing
FatCat

good, that's exactly what I need! My plan is working .... mwah! Evil or Very Mad
Aknita

I hate sewing too, don't worry!!!!!!! Laughing But I've already cracked my whip in Pictish's direction this week..........
FatCat

maybe you should be the Forum Madam? Wink
Jobo

Yes - get sewing Fatcat, those cardigan pieces look really nice Very Happy

Sewing up is an awful job isn't it? I wish there was a little sewing up fairy that came in at night while we are asleep Laughing
Aknita

It wouldn't go with my being a glamourous granny to Blossom's "bump"!
FatCat

Sewing up is indeed the pits Jobo, and I'm not very good at it hence being a tad worried! But I'll get on with it at the weekend like a good girl, otherwise Madam/Granny Joy will be after me with her whip in one hand and her knitted bootees in the other ... Wink
Aknita

I now have this mental image that will stay with me all day........... Laughing Wink
KnittingLadybird

it's going to look brill...no matter how quick a knit it was, it will take twice as long to sew it up!!!

Just get cracking on it, you'll have it done in no time Wink

see what i did there????? pun on Joy's new image? lol
Jo028

Fatcat, that's looking fab, is it ready yet Laughing
Aknita

You'll wish you'd never posted that photo Wink Laughing !
Blossom

Laughing....Weeeelllll I don't know..I think even Glamorous Grannies should be able to give people a swift kick up the bum sometimes! Laughing

FC...that looks great...I bet it'll look lovely on you...so you should easily have it all sewn up by lunchtime...wait a minute...it IS lumchtime!! Laughing

Mine has been relegated so I can get Rogue done...I have one sleeve and front to do...but like FC says its only stocking stitch and once you get going it is really quick to do! I'd better get mine done soon...otherwise itll look like nothing more than a long sleeved waistcoat that doesn't meet in the middle with the bump! Laughing
CJ

that's going to look ab fab, FC Very Happy
melody yarns

Wow! What fab Wrap cardis! I want to knit this but in Wendy Cotton Supreme DK sometime soooooon!!
FatCat

well, I did actually sew up the shoulder seams at lunchtime, so that's a start. Although I'm supposed to be working today so can't launch myself into a major sewing-up fest until tomorrow, good daylight and all that.

Blossom, we're doing the opposite (including the having a baby thing) - you'll have Rogue finished as I finish this, and then you'll be finishing this as I finish Rogue Laughing

Actually I'm not regretting posting up that pic - well not yet! I might do if I don't sew at the weekend though Laughing I knew I could rely on you lot for a swift kick up the backside, err, I mean lots of encouragement of course, to get on with it. So thank you everyone! Very Happy
melody yarns

Well I have a streaming, thick, snotty nose today (sorry Blossom, didn't mean to make you feel ill or owt), so I've decided that I'm going to go to the post office with a few parcels this afternoon and then go over to Mountsorrel to the wool shop there to buy some Caramel coloured Patons Diploma DK to knit this wrap cardi.

I'm wearing a carmel coloured V neck sweater today and the V neck bit has come undone at the centre V (it's a shop bought one Rolling Eyes ). I've tried stitching it but it doesn't look good, so I'll just have to buy the yarn for a a replacement won't I?

Funny, browns are not my colour at all, but I love this caramel colour.
melody yarns

Oh dear *sigh* the shop didn't have any caramel coloured Patons Diploma DK at all. So I HAD to buy some RYC Cashsoft DK in gorgeous soft caramel colour instead. Laughing
CJ

Laughing Laughing what a shame. Twisted Evil
pictish

Oh no Debs - how horrible Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing
murdo

Debs, you are selfless and an example to us all!!
FatCat

Well, in fear of Joy's whip and bootees Wink I spent Saturday sewing and here it is. It's in the Earth shade.

and because I know you'll nag otherwise Wink here's my best (and not very good) attempt at a modelling photo. Believe me, it's the best of lots that I took! The hem DOES line up and it's not usually scrunched under the arm, honest, it's just where I'm twisting to take the pic.

Couple of pattern notes: I had to recalculate the front slope shapings otherwise the fronts wouldn't have matched the back. (I did the second size up). But it could've been my mistake on the back or just a bad maths day overall. And I didn't like the ribbon tie on the inside, very fiddly and kept slipping, so I replaced it with a button and loop.

It's the first time I've made a complete garment in, ooh, about 20 years, and I only discovered mattress stitch last year Embarassed So I think it looks great, and I'm over the moon with it! Mr. Green Cool
pictish

Ooooh FANTASTIC FC!!!!! Cool And YAYYY for finishing it - there'll be no stopping you now Wink I had trouble with my DB wrap getting the fronts to match the back too - not sure if it was a tension thing or the maths Confused But whatever you did it and it's a gorgeous fit Razz
Jo028

You've every right to be proud, what a gorgeous top, lovely colour too.
terri

It looks lovely fatcat!!!! very well done indeed Very Happy I must dig mine out from its wip prison and get a move on Rolling Eyes Laughing
Glynis

It looks lovely on you and the colour is wonderful.
Well done!
cazzie

Fatcat, that is lovely Very Happy

Must finish other UFOs before looking at other patterns

Aknita

FatCat - it looks fabulous, it really does! I'm so pleased you've finished it, it's a great colour too. Very Happy

I can't settle to anything much just now - but I think I must take inspiration from you and get cracking so to speak! Wink

Well done!
KnittingLadybird

FC it's just lovely...well done a great sewing up job too. Mr. Green
Blossom

That looks fan-blooming-tastic!!! Smile Well done FatCat!! Smile Great sewing up...I really must get a crack on with mine! Laughing
melody yarns

Oooh what a gorgeous wrap cardi! The colour is fabulous and the photo is perfect. Well done FC!
Jobo

Well done for getting it finished FC - it looks lovely and the earth shade is really fab. Very Happy
FatCat

Gosh, thank you so much everyone Embarassed You lot are lovely, you really are the best Very Happy

I am ever so pleased with it, as I think I may have already said Laughing . Just need the weather to stop being so Springlike - bring on a cold day so I can wear it before next Winter Very Happy
CJ

yay for FC. that's gorgeous and it suits you Very Happy
FatCat

Cheers monkey ears Very Happy

Edited to add that .... the thing I forgot to mention is the tension. I had to go up to 4.5mm needles for the body, rather than 4mm, to get it right. And did the ribbing on 3.75mm rather than 3.25mm. But it might just be an issue between me and Freedom Spirit rather than the norm for everyone Very Happy
Nanatoo

That's lovely! I'm tempted to make everything out of the pattern book Laughing

You are right it's a not very good picture Wink of a very nicely knitted, wrap cardigan, you have done an excellent job, far better than mine which is still balls of wool/yarn in the stash box Very Happy
FatCat

LOL! Brilliant Very Happy I think my sides have just split, and you know how much I hate sewing ... Wink Laughing

Thank you, I'm very proud of this cardi, and it does look good on, not that you'd believe it from my photographic efforts. Very Happy
Auntie Noo

How did I miss this??????? Smile Lovely Fatcat, and we almost met you there!!! (Mind you you do have be be careful putting your face up on the forum apparently!!!!!!)
malteser

That is lovely. I've got the back done and done the rib on a front on this and then got fed up. I must finish it
slowasasnail

I must stop looking at other projects to do...

Nice job FC!
terri

Fatcat, just been reading the tank top thread where you mention tension..............................I didn't check mine when I made the back of the wrap Shocked Shocked Shocked Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad I'd better get it out and have a measure up Rolling Eyes grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr Evil or Very Mad
FatCat

Thanks everyone Very Happy

oh, sorry Terri - I did forget to mention my tension issues here. I went up to 3.75mm and 4.5mm for the cardi. Hope yours is OK!

LOL at Noo, I'm not one for putting my face in photographs, I find the third eye and the horns tend to upset people ... Wink
terri

Its not your fault fatcat, I should have checked Embarassed
FatCat

well yes, you should have Wink Because of course I ALWAYS do Rolling Eyes Laughing

Have you measured up yet? I do hope it's OK
