Top Down Sleeve QuestionI am just starting the sleeve on my cardi and I started with dpns but it is just soooo unwieldy and awkward so I have switched back to a circular and using magic loop which I don't particularly like as it stretches the stitches . I only have circs that are 80cm so too big and this is the only way I know of. Any other suggestions?? Should I try to persist with the dpns???

I did my circular garnstudio cardi sleeves on a 30cm circular - but hated knitting them - was sooo glad when I had done them - sorry not being much help am I.

I think it's going to be ok with the Magic Loop Cazzie actually tho it's a bit fiddly. Much better than the dpns I think in lots of ways this top down thing is an awful lot of trouble to go to to avoid sewing up (which I quite like )

Must admit I'm not convinced about top down - but I'm not so keen on very long rows that seem to take forever to knit

Have you tried the two circs method Ali - its so much easier and faster than any other way IMO

I've just watched a Cat Bordhi video on YouTube so am ready to give it a try - I could never think how you did this but it's actually very easy - or at least it looked it I might try socks that way

I did my FLS sleeves on dpns, switched to two circs and then went back to dpns...

I've tried the two circs and it's great but am sticking with magic loop because I only have 1 nice 5mm circ and the other is a cheapy metal with nasty joins Definitely quicker than using dpns for me.
Thanks everybody!!!

Be careful that yout gauge doesnt tighten if using dpns OR small length/sock type circs

I have done top down sleeves but I usually find a 40cm works for me....you don't have to do the sleeves in the round though, i've done them straight before cos I only hate setting in a sleeve - not sewing them up

Ah that's another way then Thanks Linz

That's what I found on my FLS - the sleeve tension was definitey tighter BUT I was working backwards and forwards on a circ for the body and using the circ like a very large straight needle iyswim and there were purl rows; on the sleeves I knitted in the round without the purl rows as per the pattern so I blamed it on that.

Oooh yes! I wore it yesterday afternoon when we went out looking a bit more posh than usual! It was lovely and snuggly warm, in fact I'm thinking of kniting a couple more but I'm in a dilemma at the moment deciding cast to cast on
