This might help to block people from taking your pics

silent right click block code

I found this whilst browsing something totally different...but I know some of you had problems with others taking your pics and I wondered if this was the answer.
I'm not sure if it will work on blogs but i'm pretty sure that will lead us onto how to do it in blogs etc...at least it's a start and it might work Very Happy
franney

The problem with that is that it will only work if the "stealer" has Javascript turned on in their browser Confused
If it's someone who isn't very computer savvy then chances are that they won't know that though and it will work, but i am not sure it'll work in Blogger as although you can edit the HTML you aren't working directly ont he source code and that's where it needs to go Confused

There is also another code that i used to use that displays another picture in it's place when you hover over the picture (does that make sense??) but from what i can remember that uses Javascript too Confused
KnittingLadybird

ah bummer I know what you mean Franney. personally I think we should all lobby blogger and get them to come up with something then Very Happy
franney

It would be good if they could, certainly.
The only really safe way to protect your images from being used by others is to watermark them or not to show them at all unfortunately Sad
KnittingLadybird

yeah....i'm ok though. Mine are usually cruddy so nobody nicks them lol

I'm safe now too, i once had a whole website "stolen" - layout, graphics, code, the lot! Evil or Very Mad
KnittingLadybird

oh that's bad...but I have sourced others peoples blogs to make mine work...not that i've actually nicked anything but I have 'lost' things on my blog so I found the codes again.

having an entire site nicked though is just pants and laziness!!!

Wow! I didn't realise that could happen  Shocked

you can easily watermark all of your pictures using a photo editing program.

do you see my name imprinted on the picture, i used to do it all the time as i made 'fantasy' pictures, either for use as a signature or to print out, this particular one i made for my sister.

i learnt a lot of my techniques using msn groups, this one http://groups.msn.com/MadisonAveTutorials/avesiteindex2.msnw is particularly good.

i agree that a right click stopper would be most helpful, but in the meantime, hopefully watermarking your work will put a stop to people nicking photos.

Daisy, there are all sorts of problems associated with tagging and using tubes and watermarking other people's work. It's one of the reasons i stopped doing it to be honest. There are some very (can't think of the word right now) people who take other people's artwork, tube it and make it available to the internet at large and really they shouldn't be - when you take someone else's artwork and make a tag or picture from it and then put your own watermark on it without crediting the origional artist (not the tuber, although a lot of them want credit too!) that is as good as stealing too. It's such dodgy territory!
I was in a lot of the artists groups as i worked my way toward being more copyright aware and things were changing a few years ago  - i would assume that things are very different now.
By the way, i just wanted to add, i am not directing this at you personally Daisy, i am just not the type of person who feels cofortable writing "one" instead of "you" Wink

Paula, yep, it happens more often than you'd think! All you need to do is to copy the source code from a webpage and any associated graphics and then you can alter it and upload it and claim it as your own - only when you do it, you need to make sure you remove the original creator's personal code or they can tell what you've done! Evil or Very Mad

You've got me wondering now if any of my websites are still active, i have played with them for ages!
daisydap

yes franney, that the reason i stopped doing it too, was just far too much fighting around on who the copyright belonged too. i did make a lot of my own tubes back then, creating them in psp myself.
the link i showed was purely so you could find how to add a watermark to the photos. it also shows you how to make your own tube of your watermark too.
saying that though, its an old link and i havent been on there for a couple of years, i should have checked really if that tutorial was still available.

I now watermark all of my images on Blogger/Flickr, the older ones I haven't bothered to go back and change though. I started doing it because there were a few people on ravelry taking pictures, probably without realising it was wrong.

I don't think anyone has stolen one of my websites but I've had my wallpaper images taken and sold on ebay, as printed images. This was when the LotR movies were coming out and I saw one or two go for astronomic prices  Evil or Very Mad There was little I could do as although they were original designs the copyright on the source images was not mine.

Just to add re the right-click disabling, even if javascript is running, any image loaded will be in the browser's cache, you can simply trawl through that and extract any image files.

oh no need to apologise, it's so hard to take the written word as it was intended to be read, god knows i've been guilty of it on more than one occasion!!
