The Mitford Girls

Absolutely brilliant!!!! Cool The biography of these mad mad and very funny aristocratic Englishwomen. Diana Mitford married Oswald Mosley the fascist leader and was imprisoned with him during the war - she was very friendly with Hitler Shocked . Her younger sister Unity took this a stage further and was infatuated with Hitler - some think she was his mistress - and tried to kill herself when war broke out. Decca (Jessica) on the other hand was an ardent Communist and ran away at 18 to fight in the Spanish Civil War. Nancy was very funny and became a famouus novelist. Deborah married the Duke of Devonshire. There were also Pam and their brother Tom. All completely bonkers Laughing

A fascinating insight into life in certain circles from the 1920s through to the present day. I just couldn't put it down tho I have always been interested in them as my mum used to work for Lord Lambton (in the estate office) just before I was born and met Deborah Mitford a few times when she visited the Lambtons.

It's by Mary S Lovell.

I've read this a few times, plus some others about and by the Mitfords. A fascinating family - and my family thinks that they're bonkers. Nothing compared to the Mitfords Laughing

I was flipping through the letters book at Borders the other evening - I really fancy it for Christmas. They were a very interesting family. I like Nancy Mitford's novels too.

My cats are very good shoppers, Pictish. In fact even my knitted dolls have been known to buy me a birthday and/or Christmas present! They bought me Victorian Lace Today for my last birthday - being knitted themselves they knew exactly what to buy Laughing
