The Knitter issue 7

Mine arrived on Friday & I got to open it last night. I'll go against the Rav trend & say I like the cover top (without the cosage). It's getting a rough time at Rav, but even the pattern states it can be tweaked, no ribbon, change the height of the mock cable section, lose the corsage etc!

Ali, it's not got a Di Gilpin pattern in it  Wink

I won't be continuing the sub now I've had my 3 for £5 though  Crying or Very sad

i didn't like this month's either. the front cover knit was ok without the corsage. i felt a bit cheated by the oldie cardigan as you can pick those patterns up in any charity shop or your grannies workbox! i forgot to cancel my sub so i've paid for one quarter but have got rid of it now so i've got 2 more copies to come.

Good, point I've not cancelled the DD either, I bet I'm too late to avoid more copies aswell  Evil or Very Mad

Thanks Jo!!! Must be next month. Still waiting for my copy and just hoping it does turn up as I subbed 2 months ago only to get a letter saying I was too late for last month's issue and to rush into town to find one.

I saw this in Asda on Wednesday when I went shopping - I flipped through it and put it back on the shelf along with the copy of Simply Knitting I flipped through  Confused

I'm obviously not a 'magazine' knitter!

I like the cover jumper too - again minus the corsage.

I also like Kaffe Fasset's Damask - mainly because I knitted it the 80's and loved it (until I felted it by mistake) - not sure if I would wear it now.

I like other projects - most with some tweaking to make more to my taste.

Its a shame The Knitter is getting such a hard time - I've left the Ravelry group because I'm fed up of the moaning - seems simple to me if you dont like it then dont buy it!

I will keep my subscription going for now - this the only one I have at the moment -  I dont think any of the mags can cater for everyones preferences all the while.

Slight digression - I've just dug out an old Prima Ideas mag from 1992 and found a jumper I fancy adapting to a more up to date version - off to Kemps to look for cheap DK yarn  Wink

Ooooh fancy you making that one cazzie!!!!! I bought Glorious Knits a while ago cos I fancied trying it Razz What a shame it felted Shocked  Shocked

IKWYM about that group!!!!!! I try to say positive things to counteract all the negativity Laughing

Personally, I hate those stupid buttons on Rav, the 'disagree' one in particular  Evil or Very Mad

I saw this issue yesterday and quite liked the Debbie Bliss leaf jacket.

I did love it - I did give up on the flower pattern on the sleeves and did them stripey only - it took ages to knit.  Wish I'd made it in to a cushion or bag now - but I didnt know then - felting was something you did by mistake and that was the end of it  Crying or Very sad

It was the only Kaffe thing I knitted although I adored his patterns - when we moved (10 years ago) I got rid of loads of knitting  books including his (wasnt knitting at the time - was into cross stitch  Rolling Eyes ).  Keep looking at some of the eighties knitting books on ebay again now - brought a Patricia Roberts one a while back   Wink

I've got Kaffe's Classics as well - got them both cheap on ebay - and also a couple of Sasha Kagan ones - one has incredible big 80s hair Laughing  Laughing

It would have made a fantastic cushion cover wouldn't it but you're right nobody did that then Confused

I had a subscription but have cancelled it now. Took it out mainly to get the free Mili bag. Laughing The thing that annoys me about the knitter is the thick pages and the number of old designs, ie book extracts and yarn company patterns. They seem to have more of those than other mags, athough Knitting had a lot of yarn company patterns in the current issue. I think one or two old patterns or book extracts max per issue is fine but any more than that I don't like. Also get the impression it's all th designers in Knitter is either current Rowan or ex Rowan designers.

I don't have a sub any more either, they seem to have messed it up after supposedly redoing it for the bag offer. After some thought I didn't bother re-subbing. There's very little in there apart from patterns and overall, it hasn't blown my socks off pattern-wise. I did just buy the current issue, the cover top isn't bad, but it seems to be a victory of style over substance. And the thick paper is actually quite disconcerting, I always think I've turned 2 pages  Laughing

I think it's lovely to look through and I enjoy getting it Razz . I now only subscribe to this, Knitting and have just started SK again on a very cheap 3 for a £1 offer. I'm wondering about subsribing to YF but am not going to renew to Interweave and will just buy as and when there's something I like as I've been disappointed with that the last year Confused

I realise now that I get knitting mags more for just looking through like any other women's mag (I don't actually buy any others these days as it happens) so just to see what's going on in the knitting world and to get a bit of inspiration patternwise though I rarely knit from them. But I love getting them!! Razz

I am a bit like that, addicted to magazines too. I have SK on subscription and recently took the 40% offer on Knit Today. I like to know what's going on ie craft events, days out. If I like a pattern I stick a post it on the page with the end stuck and write what it is. I rarely go back and use patterns though, I tend to use Ravelry. I am now getting a bit of a pile up and thinking I should clear some out but if I see one in Smiths I buy it anyway  Embarassed

Liz that's a good idea about using a post it!!!!  Razz

I'm like pictish, I like getting the magazines just to look thorugh - kind of like knitting pr0n!!!! I subscribe to The Knitter and Interweave although I'm not going to resub Interweave because it seems to have gone off the boil, I'll just buy as and when. I also seem to be buying YF every issue so I'm wondering about subscribing to that as well. The other mags I don't buy so often, only when I *really* need a knitting mag and it's a long way between subs, lol!!!

I subbed to The Knitter when it first came out and quite liked the first few issues, but in all seven so far, there has been nothing that I'm remotely interested in knitting, so I think I'm going to cancel. It's a shame.  I was really hoping for a British version of IK.  At least we have YF.
