The Knit A Monkey KAL

I found this....

Thought the PP's might like it.

There's a link in the sidebar to the Sirdar pattern for one, and just look at him on top of that tree!

Binty, you could start a KAL.... being the toy person and all ?

n

edited to change the title because it seems to have become a KAL now.  Cool
mogiebear

Aaargh! don't remind me - that's the darned monkey I have knitted all but one leg! Ds remembers about him every so often. I could EASILY get it finished for Christmas......

but I hate sewing up toys. Embarassed

I'd quite like to knit a monkey as a puppet for the classroom - I HATE knitting toys though ugh! I might knit a teddy first to sharpen my toy making skills  Confused

PPs - if your teachers used a monkey like this in lessons at school, in say.... Maths... would it make Maths more interesting do you think??

Binty

Oh you are a bad lot!!

What size does he come up? Im going to have to make two you know  Rolling Eyes
n

Shall I change the title of this thread to Monkey KAL?

I have to say I know NOTHING about knitting toys though, it just seems more logical to have one thread than several.

Let me know please...

n
cazzie

Looks as though this thread has turned into a KAL Very Happy

I'm in too  - will also have to do two  Rolling Eyes   May be a little late to the party just need to finish a couple of bits off first.

Monkee maker has knitted them in sock yarn as well - they just come up smaller Very Happy
n

I changed the title but I can't move this to the KAL bit... can someone help please?

Here is the Shop.

The monkey bags are pretty cool too.

She puts "dried peas in botty". Is there something else which could be used for weighting them which would make them more washable?

n

I'll move it now unless another moderator has already obliged  Wink

Done!!

Sorry, I put the comment about Maths in the wrong thread... I was responding to this one, because you said it first!

How about this sort of thing?

n

Off to hunt in the OTHER sort of stash...
murdo

N youreally are an enabler....bet none of us thought we would be knitting a monkey when we woke up this morning Smile
melody yarns

Laughing  you knit the monkey on the head there Murdo!

I might be rather slow at this monkey lark, although when I asked my two monkeys whether they'd like a knitted cuddly monkey, the littlest monkey looked up and nodded vigorously.

Anna

Maybe I should join this to finish a monkey. I have one that my mum has mostly done - bought from a long-gone craft shop in Whitby (just up the hill from the Sutcliffe Gallery) which sold it as a kit for an ITV Digital Monkey  Shocked  which shows how long I've had it.

I should hunt it down while tidying up for Christmas and finish it off.
murdo

Go on Anna...jump in....you'd be bananas not too (just had to be said) Smile
jam_mam

yes, stop monkeying (sp) around!
n

We have been visited by the Monkey Queen!

I sent here an email and she wrote back.... (I gave her the link to this bt of the forum which isn't a private bit).

Hi Natalie,

Thanks for your mail, I'm so touched that you've credited my monkeys with the inspiration for the knit-a-long, many thanks.  But in turn I was inspired to start one by seeing other people's ITV digital monkeys .... and then I kind of got hooked Smile

I had a look at the forum you linked to and ah-ha!  I wondered why 007's hands and feet swelled up after his turn in the washing machine!

I hope to see lots more pictures of monkeys made of knit in blog-land soon!

Regards

Kerry

ps.  Alas, I'm no expert .... I struggled over the "snout" and nearly gave up on about 3 occasions - but it's worth persevering Wink

Anna

Hmmm, methinks the monkey-eater has been in our house. I've found the pattern for the ITV digital monkey plus one of the needles Mum was using, but the other needle and the almost-finished monkey are nowhere to be seen.

Call in Sherlock Holmes, Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot to find it  Laughing

Edited to say that Monkey has  turned up in pieces! He was more finished than I thought and only needed sewing up and stuffing. I've quickly remedied most of that and he now only needs his arms. I'm going to order Chinese in a minute so I'll sew his arms on while I'm waiting for it to arrive and hopefully post a photo later this evening.
murdo

Anna, seen your monkey in the "items made section". Wonderful!
melody yarns

He is sweet isn't he?  Cool
jam_mam

Got my yarn today so off to print off my pattern then all set to go.

DD wants one in a horrid brown tweed (which she chose despite/because I tried to persuade her otherwise) and a pink one for the teacher as Miss McMannus's favourit colour is pink.

Looks like I'll have to do 3 so I get one in a nice colorway too Rolling Eyes
murdo

ooh...a troop, Jam-mam Smile
mogiebear

Yea! My monkee is finished at last! Bit rough around the edges, and nekkid, but DONE.
studio_christine

I lost my monkee-in-progress   Crying or Very sad

I think he got scooped up and tossed in the wardrobe when I pulled EVERYTHING out to check that I didn't forget small peoples presents.....

Idea

have to send an expedition to the land of Ward Robe to find him......
murdo

oooo....the Land of Wardrobe.....if you are conducting an expidition there I would take lots of water and energy bars.....and a long rope.
studio_christine

I have monkee bits.

posted somewhere else about my journey, so search me and I think you'll find it.

have back, front, two arms and almost two legs.

won't be knitting the next couple of days though, it's going to be over 100 here!!

and my baby girl is 1 tomorrow!!

so, I'll be sewing, but not knitting.
mogiebear

Finally - Pooh the monkee/chimp.

And with his friend Sock monkey, made by dd
n

He's great, love the ears!
And friend as well... did they both go to E?

n
mogiebear

Yes , both for E.
It's strange how the instructions say to sew on one ear horizontally and one vertically Confused  They probably would have ended up lke that anyway, given my toy sewing skills.
Anna

Awww, he's cute. As for the ears, I have no idea how mine went on, I just wiggled them around until they looked OK then stitched them down!
melody yarns

two fabulous monkeys there Mogie! I do love that pink stripey one though - s/he's fab!!
jam_mam

Must cast on for this or the troop will be a troop that never was.
studio_christine

have 2 arms, 2 legs, front, back, 4 ear pieces and the start of the face.

have cast on a reindeer......procrastinatign over the muzzle.....

anyone else done any monnkee (knitting) business??
Blossom

Yes...I have all my pieces knitted up....just need to sew it all together now! Smile
Blossom

He's done!! Smile You can see him HERE!! Smile
jam_mam

He's great!

What sort of eyes did you use please?
murdo

URGENT...did your monkeys arms legs have reverse sstitch or were they stocking stitch? Paws start of arms say ss then finish after x amount of wows with a purl stitch...tells you to change to khaki for main colour of arms BUT says start with a purls tstitch then work straight....is this a mistake OR is it one row of purl then back to ss OR start of reverse ss??? Help the Pirates
GrannySmith

Murdo - have not knitted a monkey or even have a pattern - however looking at Blossom's picture and the fact she talks about one arm (changing colour) not quite right - I would say reverse SS - good luck.
Blossom

Jam mam...I used 6mm safety eyes! Smile

Murdo...yes...my arms and legs are all in reverse stocking stitch...I madea mistake on the first one where I joined on the main yarn...as like you said it didn't sound right to start it with a purl stitch as you think it will look wrong BUT if you do it the way you think you should then you will get a line of khaki amongst your main colour yarn which looks like it is wearing a bracelet (if you do the purl row like it says you will get a tiny inwards 'dip' but you won't see where the two yarns join!)...as I said in my post! Smile SO blindly follow the pattern...it all comes out ok...even of it sounds wrong! Smile

If I did another one of these I would do it in normal stocking stitch...like Monkeemakers...I think they look much better like that! Smile
murdo

Right, thanks folks...normal ss it will be!
