The Island

Just finished reading this. It's a Richard and Judy recommended one and it was up for some big book prize but frankly, I didn't think it was very well written at all.

The story is good but Victoria Hislop writes in a very juvenile "then he said .... then she said" style, which I found really irritating. I found myself wishing I'd read a straightforward history of the island of Spinalonga instead! Rolling Eyes

I really enjoyed this book. Kind of know what you mean about the style, but I enjoyed the story and was fascinated by the fact there was ever such a place and so recently.

I read it a while ago, and quite enjoyed it.

Its funny how our tastes differ - I absolutely adored The Island and recommended it to anyone who would listen Laughing

A lady at work even booked a holiday in Greece just so that she could go and visit Spinalonga after reading the book Very Happy
