Knitted that 2 or 3 year ago, for DD. She came across it a couple months ago And she wonders why I don't knit for her Might consider joining once I have finished Iris

Started it tonight, first sleeve part done I'm using Rowan Wool Cotton that I got on ebay a couple of years ago (Citron shade which is a very pale lime), have been looking for a project for it for ages

You'd think, wouldn't you, with all the yarn I have in stash that I could come up with a yarn to knit teatime in
|
terri
|
I really like that, but know I wouldn't wear it with short sleeves...... maybe 3/4 would be good? I think it's very similar to GlennaC's basic black isn't it
I could be in

I dithering over yarn - either cotton ( like Kool Kotton) or I have some Colinette Cadenza but was wondering whether to do 3/4 length sleeves with that instead of the short

Me, I'm in. I bought the book last summer just for that one pattern

Glenna C's Basic Black neckline seems to be more 'v' shaped tho it looks scooped in the pattern I think Terri. There are a few nice ones of this on Rav!!
I'm in - started it last summer I think??? Have done the rib and a bit of the back maybe - will check. The rib takes forevvvver I'm using the exact same wool of the pattern (now there's a surprise ) so the RYC Cashcotton DK in Framboise.
|

i think I might make it with some of the powdery blue trinity that I have in stash

Very nice!!!

I've got a cradi with only the sleeves to do made in trinity, pink, and I do like the softness and drape of the yarn. Its not the nicest to knit with, but not horrible
I should finish a few bits off first though

It's very like Summer Tweed but finer/softer and that is gorgeous to wear and definitely softens when you wash it
|
pictish

Actually I have only just started this I find on digging in the WIP bag - I must have frogged and started again. So have done 1.5" of the rib on the back I am knitting a 34" cos the Cashcotton tends to stretch.

There was loads of cashcotton DK and 4ply on special at K2tog (Cucumberpatch) this afternoon at £2.25 a ball when I visited. But I was not tempted *polishes halo*

Don't think I'd have managed to resist the Cashcotton!
Part way through the back ribbing now, started with the sleeve to check gauge, and also to see how much yarn it took (a teeny bit less than 1 ball). A cunning plan, so if I need one extra I can use it for the sleeve and not be changing part way through a front piece. I do like how the Wool Cotton knits up, first time I have used it
|

Oh Wool Cotton is gorgeous isn't it - I've got some but only swatched with it never made a whole garment. The stitch definition is lovely!!

I'm going to put joining in on hold for now (really do want to knit one soon though).
I am going to finish of a couple of WIPs first and I have also promised I will knit a cardi for my Mum for Mothers Day and need to get on with it as it is only 4 weeks today
For Mum I am either doing Urchin out of Classic Beach or a plain Seaton out of Classic Coast - I'm using some Rowan All Seasons Cotton - Colour Purr
Editted cos Seaton is in Classic Coast (not Beach as I said originally)

Seaton's lovely - I knitted that (and sewed it up and wore it a lot ) last year.

They're both lovely - I must get that book I might ask in the Craft Market or on Rav if anyone fancies a swap
Does it all knit to 19st???
|

Just realised my error
Urchin is Classic Beach - Seaton is Classic Coast.
Both are lovely books and the patterns use the Aran yarns at 18 or 19 sts
I also love the Cabled Hoodie (Driftwoo) in Classic Beach

give me a buzz when the time comes and I'll join you Cazzie.
Edited to add,, can someone with the book tell me the sizes (finished) and how much each size takes. I might have some Milk Cotton I can use if I've got enough!! It should knit to the same tension!!

I'm undecided on the following yarns for teatime... Cashcotton DK (which the pattern is written for), Sublime Merino Angora DK or RYC Luxury cotton DK.
Any advice welcome!
|
pictish
|
If it's for summer don't use the Sublime - it will be far too hot!!! The Cashcotton is also warmish as it has 18% angora in it which makes quite a difference (I'd say it was a spring yarn really - but I'm doing mine in Cashcotton cos I love it - it's gorgeous to knit with.) It's also a bit stretchy so difficult to get guage sometimes . Best for summer is the Luxury Cotton which is gorgeous and has a lovely sheen and drape but is a bit splitty to knit with.
Have you got these all in stash or are you going to choose and buy??
|
melody yarns
|
I've got most in my stash but I'm uncertain which DK to go for... I want a more drapey fabric than a Patons cotton DK one iyswim?
I'll probs end up using Sirdar Calypso cotton DK!
|
melody yarns
|
Actually ----- I wear short sleeved cardies in spring and autumn as well... I wore my Seaton well into the Autumn with a vest top underneath it.... hmmm.....
|
pictish
|
If you have the Cashcotton in stash I'd go for that then!!! The Luxury Cotton is the drapiest tho.
|
melody yarns
|
I think I'm going for Luxury Cotton DK as I have too much Cashcotton and don't want to be left with a few odd balls iyswim? I'm a bit like that unfortunately, I have to use up what I have
|
pictish
|
Yep I'm exactly the same But the Luxury Cotton is lovely. What shade is it?
|
melody yarns
|
I have two packs of black that I bought from Jeannette last summer... but I have a hankering for red. I'm mad on red at the moment. A couple of years ago it was purple
I'm in a real doodah about yarns at the mo I should never have clicked online or gone into K2tog cos I'll end up using up all 12 vouchers in one fell swoop if I'm not careful
|
pictish
|
Now look here missus you have some very nice cottons in that stash just waiting to be knitted up!!! Don't you have any in red?? Black would be lovely - tho not very summery In fact will you want to be wearing red in the summer??? I tend to go for pinks/magenta/turquoise/lime in spring summer or pastels - I wear red autumn/winter.

I'm glad I didn't order as I've gone off the idea this morning

I take Jobo's advice and leave things a day (or even a few hours) and it's amazing the difference a new day makes
|
melody yarns
|
Well I haven't exactly been a little angel because I went off the idea of using cashcotton DK so that meant I didn't order something else either (more cotton but not for Teatime, so that means I saved myself two vouchers!) But I DID order some luxury cotton DK because I wanted it last week but felt too poorly to press the 'buy' button. This morning, with the house to myself, I was able to work out exactly how much I needed and which shades, so I've bought some from Kemps. Three shades to be exact - firebrick, cabbage and mulberry to knit Teatime, and then Gala and Muse from RYC Reminiscence respectively. I do have the black Luxury Cotton in stash, but as it's discontinued and a VERY good price.... heh heh
I'm planning to knit other things from Reminiscence too: Gala in some red Sirdar Soft Cotton DK that I have in stash, and the hooded top, Ballad, and the cabled cardie, Souvenir, using Sirdar Calypso cotton DK which is also from stash.

Thank you Ali - I'm glad someone thinks my advice is good (my kids don't )!!
Teatime reminds me very much of the Henrietta cardigan, although that is Aran.
Its a nice pattern and if I didnt have so much on at the moment, I could be tempted

I'm ordering Reminiscence (and Romance) next month - that will be at the weekend then So many really lovely patterns there.
|
melody yarns

Reminiscence has to be the best book around at the mo - I think I could knit almost everything in it several times over. I can see ballad being knitted in a wool DK for the cooler months as well. I'd better get off here and get a shufty on!!
|
Anna
|
Oooh, I hadn't seen the Reminiscence book before. Me likey! I'm not sure about Muse, it's a lovely design but if I were to wear it I could see it just hanging off the tatas. Not a good look
I do like Ballad, Boulevard, Gala (I'd prefer longer sleeves though) and Parade. I may have to get this - after all I have a ton of DK in my stash and nothing (!!!!) to knit it up into
|

Not sure if anyone else is working on Tea Time at the moment, but I've finished the left front piece on mine, just right front and another sleeve to go. I managed to miss the final few neck decreases so have 4 more stitches on the last part of the front, doesn't look like it will matter at all. Now have to make sure I do the right front the same
I also think I may be lucky and not have to buy one extra ball of Wool Cotton, judging by what I used for the first front piece
|

I've been finishing other WIPs!! Glad to hear yours is going well DC and that you might not need that extra ball I fancy doing something cottony now

32 / 33 - 6 balls
34 / 36 - 6 balls
36 / 38 - 7 balls
38 / 40 - 7 balls
40 / 42 - 8 balls

Thanks for that DC, At least I know I've got enough of the Rowan Milk Cotton to do it - once I get a book of course.
I'm getting quite frustrated that I can't get into any big places to buy the book personally and the shops don't seem to be returning my emails or calls. If I've not heard by the weekend then b****r them and I'll order on-line.

Good news on the Milk Cotton I've not tried it yet but it does look lovely.
Hope you can get hold of a copy "offline" but I've found McA Direct, Ethknits and Yarn In Notts have copies listed (the last 2 for 5.95, not sure what P&P is).

I've finished the main knitting on Tea Time and the pieces are now pinned out and blocking/drying TBH I could probably have got away with steaming them but I wasn't sure with the wool/cotton blend. Looking forward to finishing this, I got some fairly simple white pearly buttons for it.

I started mine last night. (Sorry Cazzie, couldn't wait ) Boy doesn't the ribbing take forever?
I'm using the Rowan Milk Cotton that I bought for the wri cardigan that lays blocking as we speak instead of Cashcotton. Looks like a simple and straightforward knit so I hope i'm not disappointed.

Tea Time is all done and dusted, I finished sewing on buttons this afternoon. I also took a number of photos in decent daylight including some modelled shots. Unfortunately the card in my compact camera seems to have given up the ghost so I lost the pics I'd taken. I took a few more of it on the dressform using the D-SLR but the light was going, I've added one to Rav for now. Hopefully I can sort out some better photos tomorrow! I'm very pleased with the fit of this and the fabric is very nice against my skin too

Thanks!
I think the D-SLR is a lot better at capturing colours than my compact digital, too. It's the best shot of the actual shade I've managed to get even with poor light. The same goes for the Ms Marigold WIP photo I took - it;s the same Kiwi as for Flutter Sleeve but it's definitely the right shade in the Ms M photo.

I finished the back of mine last night and cast on both fronts today. It's in Rowan Milk Cotton shade 088 which McA describes as Scented Satin. It's a lavender shade but only looks like a steel grey on film. I love the feel of it too it's as soft as silk.

I've had unexpected free time this morning and so I've blocked my tea-time. As I've said previously the yarn is a strange colour and I've not really been able to capture it on film very well. At the time of taking the picture the fronts and sleeves were sprayed and so look lots darker than in reality. The best colour comparison is in this photo where the back isn't wet.
