Taglatelli or Giotto?I recently saw patterns for items I liked in Colinette Giotto (the one in SK magazine for a whacky waistcoat) and in Tagliatteli (in kit form on the Colinette website).
Has anyone any wisdom to share about these two yarns.
Are they easy to wear or is the resulting fabric a bit too chunky would you say?

I like Giotto, loath Tagliatelli yarn.

That's interesting Gilraen. Can you say what it is that you like/loathe about each yarn?

I've only felt the Tagliatelli and I don't like the texture which is sort of matte whereas I like the Giotto which is more silky and shows the colours beautifully. I have knitted with Giotto but not finished the top yet tho I have heard of problems with it stretching with wear

Much prefer Giotto for "feel"

I havent really knitted with Tagliatelle (only a bit in a multi yarn top).
I have knitted a vest top in Giotto - I love the feel and drape of it. I find it does stretch a bit with wear (mine was on 8mm needles) - but following a tip from someone on here (sorry forgotten who it was) I pop it in the washing machine and all goes back to normal

I've knit with both and like them for different reasons. the tagliatelli is nicer to knit with imho and produces a lovely light soft garment, my DD loves her hat and vest. giotto is a bit of a pain to knit with, but the end garment has a nice drape and washes well. depends what you're after really.

Thank you all for sharing your opinions, you have given me plenty to consider for deciding what to do.

I have knit with both, the tagliatelli I am not too sure about, the hat and vest top I made Jack do not keep their shape, the hat is quite a mess now, but then again he does put it on a million times a day, the top I gave away for a friends dolly, the giotto I love, I am knitting titania in it and it is beautiful, it can be a little snaggy as it is easy to get it caught, but it is beautiful and looks great knit up and feels lovely, I can't wait to finish my top in it, I would choose the giotto over the tag anyday

I've knitted with both too - I made a cardigan in Tagliatelli last year for my mum which was a b***er to knit with as it twisted furiously BUT the end result was lovely - a really soft fabric with beautiful colours. I love the texture of Giotto but I'm blowed if I can get anywhere like a decent tension with it

Giotto as stated has a lovely sheen to it. It knits up well and has a richness of colour that I like. I have knitted a Jacket in it and I have just to finish a seam. I does twist abit though but I think all tape yarn does.
Tagliatelle is woven around a central thread, the one skein I got of it to try was murderous to wind and a large portion was frayed and useless. I won't even bother to contact the company about it as I'm pessimistic about their customer service when their is a query.
I cannot even bear to look at it now

Oh goodness Gilraen, that's awful! Perhaps I need to reconsider my options here!

Do you want me to send you some of each?

I know most of you have seen this, so apologies, but I know Glynis hasn't and I thought it might be helpful. This is a Starling cardigan in kit form from Colinette in Lilac colourway.
And I've always found Colinette more than helpful on the phone - but of course we all have different experiences don't we, and I know yours wasn't Gilraen - I hope it was just a "one-off" though.

Joy it was only one time and hopefully a case of PMT/whatever etc......... I'm still buying Colinette yarn, just not directly, that way I can deal with GK etc if there is a problem.....
Georgeous picture of your Mum in Starling.

Joy, that is simply lovely! What gorgeous colours.
Your mum looks lovely in that shade, doesn't she? Thank you for showing me
Perhaps the best thing is to be patient until I can have a good look at the yarns in person. It won't hurt me to wait until Ally Pally in October if I've not found a stockist I can visit before then.
Thank you very much for your kind offer Gilraen, I do appreciate it, but it really sounds as if I need to check this idea out more thoroughly
