Sublime Luxurious Woolly MerinoI had to take back the Sirdar yarns I got recently as I've just realised that anything with more than a tiny bit of acrylic in it is making my hot flushes a lot worse so swapped it for some of this and it is absolutely gorgeous!!! Very like DB Cashmerino Astrakhan but actually softer and 96% merino. I love just about every pattern in the book too You can see the patterns here . The colours are all stunning and it is a bit expensive (£5 a ball) but a cardi uses 7 balls for a 36" so not in Rowan league or anything
Don't buy it if you don't like knitting with boucle yarn though - it's one you either love or hate I think

Ooooh good to know it's lovely - it's on my To Buy list this winter as I like most of the designs in the book too

Oh no! So you'll never be able to experience Stylecraft Aran after admiring it for all these years, sob ... But seriously, what a pain for you! But at least you know now what the problem is and were able to take back the Sirdar and swap it
I'm not sure the Woolly Merino is for me, not really a boucle fan, but it does look very nice! What colour did you get and have you decided what to make with it?

I know!!!!! I have 'a few' cashmerino type yarns too but I seem to be ok with those - not sure whether microfibre = acrylic maybe it doesn't!! I have a bit of other stuff though which might find it's way into the Craft Market some day
I'm going to make this one FC but all in a smoky brown
It's a lot easier to knit with than the DB stuff actually - not very splitty and only a bit fiddly in casting on so far.
The shop were very good about changing it.

I really love boucle, but I don't think I'm very good at knitting with it
When I was getting back into knitting a few years back I knitted up some old Patons Mona Lisa DK boucle (at least 50% wool as far as I can recall). I kept losing or finding stitches, and the finished jacket has a slight bias to it so that when buttoned, the front twists slightly. If it had been a sweater it wouldn't have noticed, but I'm always aware that my button band does not sit perpendicular Not that I'm an*l about it, but it would be nicer if it didn't twist

You've got to keep checking stitches with the Astrakhan - but this really doesn't seem as bad Glynis!!!

There are some really nice patterns in there (especially the one you've chosen pictish) but couldn't the model have looked a bit more cheerful, it's enough to frighten people away

ooh, that is a nice pattern Ali! Looks very Chanel-ish, very smart! And it'll be gorgeous in brown
LOL at MW, that's exactly what I thought, the model looks like an extra in a zombie movie
