Socks from stash clubRoobeedoo posted on her blog yesterday about Woolgirl sock club. She is not going to renew, but start a one woman sock club by picking a yarn from her stash each month. I liked the idea enormously and it became kind of snowball rolling down the hill. After we discussed the details, we decided to start a group blog and call it “Socks from Stash Club.” You can get invitation by e-mailing to me. Address is vakerrellen @ vivikala . net, remember to remove spaces.
The club works as follows: all members pick a random yarn from their stashes at the beginning of each month. It must be from stash - no cheating! The idea behind the Club is to give the spotlight to the forgotten jewels of our sock stashes (which have been buried under even more beautiful jewels ages ago). At the end of month we display our finished socks and feel great for knitting them from stash. This time, the sock yarn does count. And we will have fun, the more members we get the merrier it will be.
There are no rules against buying. This isn’t yarn diet, although you could use this to strengthen your new year promises of dieting. We start on January 2nd.
I’m already wondering whether I should pick Koigu or Zen Yarn Garden.

I've joined as putting my stash onto Ravelry has meant that I now know that I've got enough yarn for over 70 pairs of socks

I know I did have more but have sold/swapped some of it. I had no idea that I had so much so Ravelry has definitely been good for me.

Think I will be doing it too Esp as it doesn't mean you CAN'T buy a hank if you fancy it But the aim is to get the sock stash reduced - and I agree about all the 'forgotten jewels' in there I desperately need socks.

This is a good idea, Most of the socks I have knit recently are from stash so will definately be doing this, I have patterns lined up for some of my sock stash already

This is exactly why I'm refusing to even think about putting my stash on Ravelry - oh the fear of finding out
I'm up for this, but unofficially, I'm not sure about actually joining the blog/KAL thing (yeah, my technofear and numptiness strikes again). But I'll be there in spirit and on here if that's OK.

But it's been really useful as I now know EXACTLY what I've got & can plan projects without leaving my seat.

Ah, I really like being able to rummage through stash and find things I'd completely forgotten I had (Lots of things I'd forgotten about, usually .... )
