Don't you have to knit a pair of socks for someone before someone knits you a pair?
Or something

I did look at this after finding a link to it elsewhere but had forgotten all about it.
I had decided that I would watch and learn this time and maybe join in another time.
I think you are right Franney...you have to knit a pair for your target before you recieve a pair. But then it all seemed to get more complicated...as far as I could tell ( and I might be wrong ) if you send your socks to your target before they have finished theres for their target, they then have to send the socks to you to finish and send on. I just had visions of having all these stray socks to finish for other people.
I will still keep watch on it as it did seem a fun idea.

Each person is assigned a victim, everyone using same pattern and gauge (hopefully). You knit socks for your victim as fast as you can and send them on. Once you receive your knitted socks you are "dead" and out of the game. Unfinished socks are sent to your killer, who tries to complete them and kill your victim before being killed - as many times as possible. One winner= last person alive. In theory everyone gets a pair of socks knitted for them.
Last years was a bit of a shambles, due to the Irish hurricane knocking out the organisers computer just as it was about to start, and she didn't appoint anyone else to help moderate etc. and with over 700 members there were a lot of drop outs and arguments. This years is much smaller, thankfully.
There is also a yahoo group "Death by socks" that was set up after Sock wars and is in it's second round now, but even with only 20 odd people involved there seem to be people who sign up and don't play fair. (We're down to the last 5 atm )
