Snowdrift cardigan questionsI would like to make this cardi for my DD2 for Christmas. I think Terri made one a while back and I wondered if any one can suggest a sub for the Reynolds yarn.
I need to achieve 141/2 st x 20 rows on 6mm needles.
I thought about Woolease Chunky (14 x 18 on 6.5)
or Sirdar Click (14 x 19 on 6)
What would any of you recommend for needle sizes etc or would I just swatch and if I get the 141/2 sts just make the length longer?
Any advice is welcome.

I just used an aran weight from stash, made a start and then after a few inches, checked my gauge was ok and it was
I used dolly maxi by laines du nord, and its really nice yarn to knit with, quite drapey so it stretched in length slightly when blocking, but it's nice! They have packs of ten on sale at Pavi yarns too craftylady, £18.95, so bargainous!!!!! here
not sure what other yarn to suggest, but I think you could get gauge with most standard aran weight yarn if you use the 6mm needle
Does that help any??

Just to add, the pattern does call for an aran weight yarn, not a chunky. Maybe if you're aiming for a winter cardi though, chunky would work well. Depends on how dense you want the fabric to be

Terri, only went for chunky because that gave near enough the same tension on near enough the same needles.
What difference would using chunky make?

I think your finished cardi would be a slightly denser fabric, but thats not necessarily a bad thing tbh if its for christmas and the cold weather
Mine isn't a very dense fabric, which is why it's drapey, but although its merino, and very warm, its perhaps more of a summery cardigan I think if you can get gauge with chunky, it'll be warmer!
Have you looked on ravelry to see what others have used for it? I'm sure some will have used chunky yarn

14 or 15sts to 19 or 20 rows over 6.5mm needles is the standard tension for chunky so you should be fine with it. As Terri says it will knit to a slightly denser fabric, but on the other hand it won't stretch as much either if your yarn has stretchy tendencies iyswim??!

I bought a sample ball of Sirdar Click this afternoon and have made a tension square (it's resting at the moment) so I'll see how I get on with it once I've finished Teatime. At long last.
I looked on Ravelry and several were made with chunky so I think it'll be ok in the long run.
Thanks for your advice girls. I knew you'd keep me right
