Sirdar Yoyo

I saw this jacket knitted up in a LYS about 2 years ago and really liked it but never bought the yarn (a mostly acrylic boucle in shading colours) because of so many negative comments about it on another forum.  BUT it is actually not bad at all to knit with - a bit fiddly on the rib but on sts st pretty much ok - a lot easier than DB Cashmerino Astrakhan which is boucle as well - and the fabric it makes is very soft and poodley Razz  Laughing

I have a jacket I paid £50 for in Per Una last year in the same sort of yarn composition and I love it and wear it a lot. This cost £19 for pattern & yarn at full price so a bit of a snip Laughing And Kemps have some of the colours half price Wink

Just thought I'd let you know Laughing  Laughing
jessica

Ali that looks lovely, but you are so naughty, you just want some more of us to join in your naughtiness to make you feel better.
pictish

No not at all - now would I do that?? Laughing  Laughing
Jo028

I think you're the only person I've ever known to give it the   thumbup  I love the effect, but I couldn't knit with it at all  Crying or Very sad
pictish

It does squeak a lot on the rib needles Laughing but I LOVE boucle yarns you see and I'm willing to put up with the inconvenience maybe Laughing

And the pattern is very clever - you have to follow it exactly knitting from the centre of the ball at the start of the back then the front of the ball on the left front etc - all to get the shading to match - at least that's the theory Laughing
cazzie

I've got a ball of this stashed away - just couldnt decide which pattern to do with it  Wink
pictish

My pattern uses a ball I think up to size 38" - I think there are a couple that just need the one ball Cool
cazzie

Ta, will have look again Very Happy
cazzie

This pattern is nice - needs 2 balls though

http://www.knitandsew.co.uk/Sirdar_Yo_Yo_pattern_8927.htm

There are some patterns I haven seen before
melody yarns

Kemps have some half price Cazzie so you could knit that for the cost of buying one ball iyswim?

I have three balls of Yoyo in stash - one I bought earlier in the year from Kemps. I think sometimes we forget that a LOT of chain store jersey garments are actually made with acrylic but still pay the price for them. If we can get a nice jersey or cardie for much less and have the fun of whipping it up whilst sitting on a rainy dull summer's afternoon and watching a DVD then I'm all for it.  Wink
jessica

oh yes and today is the day for it isn't it.  I just tiptoed over to Kemps and they actually have quite a few colours.  I really like some of those patterns too.  Actually a good washable cardi isn't a bad thing to have in your wardrobe.
jessica

Oh dear you are a naughty girl, i have just ordered one ball of Magenta and the shrug pattern, with postage though only £13.  I would have like the Moss but they didn't have that one.
pictish

Ohhh sorry jessica Embarassed  Laughing That was why I had to pay full price tho cos the moss was my favourite - but I may end up getting some more later from Kemps Laughing My Per Una jacket is very lightweight and comfy and I wore it loads last autumn with a skirt (I got a skirt that goes with it but is slightly different IYKWIM) and with jeans. I can see me wearing this one a lot Cool

Cazzie I nearly got that pattern too - it is lovely and no squeaky ribbing Laughing
pictish

PS there is a plain round neck jumper pattern on the ballband too.
FatCat

cor, I really like some of those patterns!  Thanks for the info  Very Happy

Is Yo Yo aran weight?  I'm a bit confused  Confused the info on the shop site says it's chunky but Rav says it's aran .... and is there a difference between those two anyway?   scratch    I've plenty of aran around the place already so perhaps I might be able to get away with just investing in a pattern or two.  (Although the Yo Yo yarn does look very nice indeed .... )
pictish

It's a funny guage FC maybe cos of the poodliness Laughing 15st 24 rows on 4.5mm Confused . You would only need 1 ball @ £7.99 from Kemps for your size for most of the patterns tho.
jessica

Ali  heart you make me laugh, they have lots of nice colours!!!

The Moss is a lovely colour
pictish

Ah yes maybe they are discontinued. Cazzie you can have my ballband pattern if you want it!! Don't think I'm going to make that.

Jessica I can't help myself Laughing  Laughing

I'll put a piccie up of mine so far - it knits up fast - once you get past the rib Laughing
pictish

Just started last night while watching Pretty Woman Wink

It doesn't show the gradual change from very dark to lighter moss very well tho Confused

I liked the fudge colour I saw a couple of years ago when I bought my two balls from a shop in Wales; I got the navy and lilac shades then and it was £15.99 a ball. I got my plum shade from Kemps and it was half price which I also like! All I need to do is cast on eh?  Laughing
cazzie

I've ordered 2 balls of the Nocturne shade  Laughing

Might dig out the original ball (black/grey) and my pattern book.  Think why I never knitted it was that I wanted a simple fitted cardi in it.

Love yours Pictish

Come on you know you want to Debs Laughing Have you got a pattern??

Have you seen the Sirdar Tweedie Chunky tho and patterns Shocked  Laughing
melody yarns

I spent ages looking through the catalogue this afternoon, didn't get a thing done!

I would much rather spend my thin-on-the-ground spare cash on Sirdar and Patons patterns and booklets this year rather than the 'same old same old' that the designers keep putting out year after year  Sad

That bit cracked me up  ROFL

Got to keep my hand in Laughing  Laughing

Debs I think I might send off for one of the Readicut catalogues - they seem to be free. I love looking through things like that - much nicer than on a computer screen.

And I agree - seems Sirdar/Sublime have the best designers these days Wink
FatCat

and usually flattery works a treat on me  Wink  Laughing   (and yes, I am still thinking about it, hmmm  Laughing resistance is almost futile, you really are very good at this enabling lark!)

But now then, the Readicut website says that Yo Yo IS aran ....  Rolling Eyes  Confused
pictish

Well if you have a thick aran it would do Cool The Yoyo isn't really thick in itself it's the boucle bits that fill it out.
cazzie

I like this crochet jacket - click on the top piccie -  sorry this is a ravelry link.  Have ordered the book  Rolling Eyes
pictish

Oooh that's lovely - wish I could crochet Confused
melody yarns

Pictish the catalogues ARE free from Readicut and good for flicking through ona rainy afternoon. I used to keep the catalogues and make a note of the yardage/meterge of yarns so I can substitute easily; no longer necessary with the internet availability of information these days though  Very Happy

Cazzie - that's that fudge colour I rather like on the link you gave  Wink
pictish

Thanks - off to order one now - esp if they give you the amounts etc Razz
jessica

My yo yo arrived yesterday, was out all day helping DD2 to clean the house she has just moved out of.  The yarn is lovely, beautiful colour much nicer than on the comp. but the ball band says handwash only, please somebody tell me that you can put it in a machine after all there is only 14% wool.
cazzie

Mine came yesterday too  (Nocturne) cant wait to start - just got to decide which pattern:  knitted or crochet  Very Happy

Crikey! Hand wash? I didn't know that....  Confused  Confused

Oh no Shocked It's not surely Rolling Eyes How can something that is almost entirely acrylic be handwash? I think it will be going in my machine Laughing
cazzie

Mine will be in machine too - on a delicate wash

I've just been and bought a ball of YoYo for 8.50 on ebay (Damson Mist colourway), and this pattern for a rib-yoke jumper which I rather liked. I originally spotted this jacket but decided I'd get more wear out of the jumper  Smile And I can always get some more half price YoYo if I decide on the jacket too!

I remembered this thread, and couldn't pass up a sweater at that price. I like the subtle colour transitions too.
pictish

Oh I love that pattern Cool
jessica

i love both those patterns especially the jacket, was the one i was originally going to make but decided to make the bolero instead, all rib!!! it's really nice and i knitted it in a week, must get round to taking a piccie.
pictish

Oh wow Jessica that was amazingly quick esp if it's rib Shocked  Cool Can't wait to see it.
cazzie

Oooo also look forward to seeing a piccie Smile

There a few nice patterns for Yo-Yo and some nice new colourways too.  I want to start mine soon - need daylight tho at least to get started (I choose one of the darker colours in Kemps sale).
dreamcatcher

Wow that was quick jessica! Look forward to a photo  Very Happy
