Sirdar Hoodie KAL

This is the pattern here - Sirdar 8427. It's still current. I'm knitting it in exactly the wool of the pattern ie Sirdar Country Style DK in Rosehip shade 527. It takes 4 100g balls for 32" and 34" and 5 balls for 36, 38 & 40. It costs about £2.79 a ball in Kemps  Cool or I paid £3.30 in my LYS.

I'm about a third up the back which is just plain st st. Piccy soon.
terri

I suppose as I already have this otn, it would be rude not to join in wouldn't it Wink
I have the back, and part of one front done. I'm using jaeger Monte cristo which is a cotton blend and very nice and soft!
heres the back, now finished

and the pattern on the front
jeanette

There's absolutely no stopping you two Very Happy You must have elves in the back room.

Oooo lovely pattern and lovely colours (both the pink and greeny one)
terri

it's lovely soft yarn, and its a nice green irl too! I made this hoodie for my younger sister a couple of years ago in a brushed acryliccy yarn, she really liked it Shocked  it looks better in a nice smooth yarn Very Happy
you up for this on jeanette?? Laughing
craftybernie

That's very nice.  I like the yarn Terri. Very silky looking.

Don't suppose Sirdar sell their patterns as PDFs online?  This looks like something I could cope with.
slowasasnail

I'd love to join this but don't have any DK in my stash.  I'll have to wait a bit before I join in.  After all i'm a lover of all things cably.
slowasasnail

Sorry for some reason I posted this twice.
melody yarns

I have this pattern (no surprise there then!!  Laughing) and I'd love to join in but I have a few WIPs otn at the moment that I'd like to finish before I cast on anything new. I have some gorgeous King Cole Merino DK that would be perfect for this. And some Wendy Merino DK, and Jaeger DK, and......  Laughing  Laughing
Auntie Noo

I'm a bit cardigan'd out at the mo, but can't wait to see how they all look cos I think it's a lovely pattern

You two are amazing! You must knit at twice my speed Laughing

It's a super pattern and I may think about this one in about six months Smile
pictish

Well we're both WIP-busting!!! I cast on for this before Christmas Cool

I wish I DID have a few elves jeanette that would be a great help - the cats like playing but just won't knit Twisted Evil
terri

My elves work for free in exchange for dancing in my stash, easily pleased bless them Laughing
I'm doing one new project a month, and then working on wips inbetween, and it seems to be going well so far!!! I've just pulled the rest of the yarn for this from my yarn cupboard, so all ready to go Very Happy
pictish

Here is a pic of mine so far

jeanette

Lovely neat st st and a beautiful colour Ali  Very Happy
pictish

Thank you Cool It's a really nice soft rose pink and sort of heathery when it's knitted up.
loobyj

Hmm - I like that  Very Happy   I've only used the yarn for gnomes and nativity figures, but I liked and it's got some good colours  Very Happy   And I seem to have hoodie mania at the mo!

I could be hooked, but need to get a couple of bits cleared first!

Both look yummy - really like the definition of the pattern on yours Terri!

lj
Jobo

Ooh yes both lovely colours Terri and Pictish Very Happy   I've never heard of Jaeger Monte Cristo before Smile

Its a beautiful pattern as well - look forward to seeing more progress Very Happy
pictish

Just up to the raglan shaping now Cool
loobyj

Found some yarn and the pattern online, but no pattern info - can someone tell me what's the biggest two sizes and how much do they take?

Ta muchly

lj
pictish

Yep. Biggest 2 are 40" (actual=42") which takes 5 100g balls and 42" (44") which takes 6 100g balls Cool
gilraen

Georgeous Hoodie!! Your 2 WiPs look lovely!! Smile
loobyj

Thank you!

monte cristo is a discontinued yarn, I've had it in stash for ages and ahad got it from somebody elses stash on here...... I think Jannette on ebay has some of it actually, maybe from that shop sale Confused
FatCat

oooh!  Now this is very tempting. I've plenty of DK in my stash, got some lilac Sirdar Bonus that I started Ivy in last year and then frogged, that'd do nicely.  Just need to lay my hands on the pattern and I may well join in!  Got SO many things OTN that one more won't hurt ... will it?

Terri and Ali, yours look fab so far, what lovely colours!  Very Happy

Was it me??  Question
loobyj

What am I like.  More to the point, what are you like Pictish and Terri, hooking me in like that  Very Happy

Okay - I've ordered the pattern and this colour.

What I can't work out is if I've broken my stashalong.....  I said I wouldn't buy any yarn which I didn't know what I was going to make with (appalling grammar  Embarassed ) so that's not broken.  But I also said I was going to knit up all my wips and projects in waiting - so that is broken.

But  Idea  I've not spent any of my Christmas money yet  Very Happy   So it can be a present, which doesn't count.  So stashalong is still intact  Very Happy

Fab.

I mustn't read this thread anymore - getting tempted  Rolling Eyes

FatCat

That is a gorgeous colour loobyj!

OK, anyone, help, where can I get the pattern?  I was hoping one of my local cheapo yarn shops would have it, but their Sirdar patterns seem to stop at 5000 and something, and look very dated  Sad

It was indeed Laughing

I thought you would be able to get the pattern at knitwell, but I've just looked and can't find it Confused
pictish

Peachey Ethknits have it here Cool

That's a lovely colour lj!!
FatCat

Thanks!  Also found it at Dianne's   Very Happy   But rather tempted by the Countrystyle DK in Greystone for it ... if I've got to place an order for the pattern anyhow then I might as well get the yarn too.  Hmm.  I really don't need it though  Confused

I think what I'll do is sleep on it,  see how I feel about it all tomorrow morning and then decide.  I really don't need another wip, maybe I don't need to join in on this one.  Hmm.  Dunno.

See, I liked the Greystone colour too - so if you did it in that then I could see it in real life and decide if I really liked it  Very Happy   And you are the girl that says it doesn't matter how many wips you have - at least I think it was you  Confused

Anyway - my order's been dispatched - could be with me tomorrow  Very Happy   Will keep if for holiday knitting next week.

Oh dear, that does sound like the sort of thing I'd say  Rolling Eyes  Laughing  Well, now you've made it sound as if I really do need to buy it - all in a good cause so you could see it.  But I'm in a major quandary now - do I do this or do I do the Sirdar Eco Yarn cabled yoke cardi (scroll down a bit) that I've just noticed?

I wonder if I should place a bet on the percentage of you that suggest I do both .... ?   Wink  Laughing
pictish

Well now I think you should just tackle one WIP at a time ......... ROFL
loobyj

Ahh now - that's a really FatCat cardi too - but probably more of an autumn/winter number - whereas the sirdar hoodie is just what you need for those spring/summer strolls along the prom, prom, prom  Very Happy

LOL!  I've just laughed out loud at that from you  Shocked  Laughing

LOL too at loobyj, I'm going to be singing that all evening now, where the brass band plays, tiddley om pom pom!   Very Happy  It may well take me most of the year to make the Eco one, given my history with the likes of Rogue.  But I like your reasoning ... hmmm, still thinking about it  Very Happy   Thanks!

Oh I'd definitely get both patterns and yarn and tackle both WIPs; think of the postage charges you'd save getting both at the same time (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
pictish

I HAVE said that on another thread!!! Laughing  Laughing It's gorgeous yarn the Eco Wool heart
FatCat

well, I'm still very undecided but I think I might go for this one, the Sirdar hoodie, especially after costing up the Eco Yarn  Shocked

So, I've been looking at the pattern sizing, and I'm a tad confused about whether to do the 81cm size, which fits a size 10 and comes out at an actual chest size of 86cm, or the 86cm, which fits a size 12 and comes out at 91cm.  I'm a size 10 so in an ideal world I'd do the smallest size but if I made the 86cm then I could wear it over long-sleeved things  Confused  Or would it just be too big  Confused

Any advice anyone?  I am sorry about all these questions and my dithering!   Embarassed  I'm not in a very decisive mood at the moment  Rolling Eyes
FatCat

Right, decision has been made.  Finally!   Rolling Eyes I'm definitely in for this one!   Very Happy  And I have been ever so good, all I've ordered is the pattern, and not the Eco book or yarn, or even any Countrystyle - dug out my lilac Sirdar Bonus from stash and decided that it will do just fine  angel9

But if anyone does have any advice on the sizing then I'd be grateful  Very Happy
melody yarns

Could you maybe measure something in your wardrobe that you're happy with and use that as a guideline? 'd personally go for the smaller size as knitted fabric does stretch a bit  Shocked
mogiebear

Might be up for this Wink best place for pattern leaflet?
Won't be using Countryside though - I don't like the feel of it knitted up (digital monkey and all that Crying or Very sad )
melody yarns

I would think that any standard dk would be suitable Mogie, as long as you have plenty of meterage  Wink
pictish

There's a couple of mentions earlier on in the thread mogie Cool
mogiebear

Pattern ordered (and yarn) Wink
terri

What yarn are you going to use mogiebear???
mogiebear

I ordered New Lanarl wool/silk in russet . Hope I like the colour when it comes.
terri

oooooo, I haven't tried them yet!!! I'm planning for next year after my stashalong has finished Laughing

I was looking at that yarn in that colourway just an hour ago. It's gorgeous!
pictish

What a good choice mogie Cool
pictish

I've just started the left front of mine Very Happy
loobyj

Mine arrived today - v quick seeing I only ordered it yesterday lunchtime.  Back is cast on  Embarassed  only four rows done so far - need a lot of stitches for my ample proportions  Very Happy

Colour is a bit darker than it looked on the screen - but very nice.

Pictish - you're fair zooming on with yours  Shocked

Mogie - you probably said, but where did you get your yarn, sound yummy!

lj
pictish

I have actually been knitting other things as well Shocked  Laughing It seems to knit up quickly tho somehow!! But I'm just about to start the cabley bit so that will slow me down.

Looking forward to seeing a pic of yours lj.

New Lanark - don't know why I ordered more, as I have plenty in dark blue, but just fancied a different colour Embarassed
terri

I can't find the notebook with my current row count for this in Shocked
Hope it turns up, or I'll be forgging the front unless I can work out where I'm up to Sad
pictish

Hope you find it terri Cool
FatCat

ooh you girls are rushing along with yours!   Shocked  Looking forward to lots more pics  Very Happy   Hope you find that notebook Terri!

Hopefully I'll have my pattern by the weekend and then I can join in with the fun  Very Happy
loobyj

Been mooching about sites instead of working  Embarassed  and think I quite fancy this one next  Confused

It's aran weight - so, I thought I'd frog my Rogue cardi - which to be honest I'm not enjoying (bit too soon after the last one) - and use that.

BUT, I will finish this one first  Very Happy

lj
pictish

Ah!!! I have that pattern too lj and it's going to be otn at some point soon Wink
melody yarns

And I have that pattern too  Embarassed
pictish

I thought you might Laughing  Laughing

I'm a norty pattern hoarder...  Embarassed  Laughing  Laughing

You've just got a well-stocked 'pattern library' Laughing  Laughing
melody yarns

That's a very nice way of putting it  Laughing
FatCat

good grief, isn't there a limit to the number of cabled hoodies any one person can possibly own?   Wink  Laughing

That is a very nice pattern though, and aran so it'll knit up quickly.  But I think I'm sticking with Rogue and this Sirdar one.  For the time being.  But once I manage to get my sticky paws on the pattern for CPH then that I shall definitely make one of those too  Very Happy
pictish

A but that one's not a hoodie Laughing
FatCat

bum, you're right!   Shocked  It's all in the details  Rolling Eyes  Laughing
slowasasnail

You can never have too many hoodies...
FatCat

Hurrah my pattern's been shipped!  So might be with me tomorrow  Cool

*does a happy little dance*   Very Happy

I'm rapidly being converted to this "can't have too many hoodies" idea  Cool
melody yarns

)Ah yes! I love hoodies  heart

And jackets with collars...

I'm nearly finished with my Paris cotton jacket, which I'm not all that happy with now that it's nearly done  Sad  but I'll spare you the details. I want to cast on something new! But at the rate I knit and the limited time I have it might have to be something for the summer months  Rolling Eyes

I have the pattern for the Sirdar hoodie and a couple of full packs of King Cole Merino DK which is lovely yarn... but I could use that in the grey for the Eco-Wool cable-y patterned cardigan with the yoke... or .....  chicken
melody yarns

See now, for some strange reason I've just been and visited the Knitwell online shop and looked at Stylecraft Pure Wool DK to knit this bloomin Sirdar hoodie in... and I DON'T WANT ANY MORE YARN!!!!

*cries and runs away*
pictish

What are you like!!! Laughing Just get some of your Jaeger DK out or the King Cole - that sounds lovely!!! Or have a good look at your yarn spreadsheet thingy Wink
FatCat

LOL!  But then sometimes new yarn is just the ticket  Wink  Laughing   But you say yourself you DON'T NEED IT  Evil or Very Mad

What Pictish said is very wise - why don't you cast on with something you've got first?  And if you don't like how it's coming out then you can go for the new yarn option  Very Happy
melody yarns

Yes you're both absolutely right, buggritt  Laughing

Although Mr Melody had promised me a trip to Yarn in Notts and I was  going to order this yarn in lieu of travelling all the way to Nottingham and all the way back and dragging three yarn-impatient men around a yarn shop and.....  Laughing

Good enough excuse??  Laughing  Laughing
pictish

Well if you'd really forgo a trip to Yarn for that ............ Wink (cos there would be some very luscious things there I'm sure) Wink

Seriously Debs you just do what makes you happy Razz
melody yarns

I'm not sure that buying new yarn would  Wink  Wink  when I could use up stash  Wink  Wink  but it's that yarn buying temptation thingy. I wonder if the NHS do patches??  Laughing  Laughing

LOL, nice soft alpaca ones that you can stroke when you feel the need to buy coming on  Laughing

There's always the reality check treatment - find out how much yarn you actually have already that you could use for this project .... mind you, when I try that approach the shock of the size of my stash tends to send me screaming to the nearest online yarn store just to get over it  Laughing
loobyj

Oh no - poor Debs - but the King Cole merino is nice - but then so's the lure of new yarn.....

The countrystyle is knitting up nicely, am on to the lovely straight stocking stitch bit now - so can knit away without looking  Very Happy  Am doing this on straights - I've been using circulars for so long now even for straight stuff my wrists are aching this morning  Confused   Might have to search and see if I've got any bamboos.

My plan is to get as much done of the back and sleeves as I can while I'm away next week - then do the funny stuff when I get home.

lj
melody yarns

Looby, when you knit little pieces like sleeves on circulars do you find that the connecting cord twirls around and irritates you when you're knitting?
FatCat

Looby, looby, looby - we want pics!    Razz  Laughing
mogiebear

Yarn arrived this morning - before we were up! (2nd day in a row big squishy parcel has arrived before dh has left for work Embarassed ) - just as well it was Valentines day!
Pattern might arrive later on - if the postman hasn't too many cards to deliver on his round .
loobyj

Yes - I find the cord goes all bendy and twists things up a bit  Very Happy   I have got a 40cm 4mm somewhere I think - might see if I can get away with that for the sleeves on this one.

I'll try and post a progress pic before I go FC - though ribbing and stocking stitch may not float your boat terribly much  Laughing

You'd be surprised, I'm easily pleased ....  Rolling Eyes  Laughing
pictish

I got to the fiddly cable bit yesterday and was a bit tired - needing easy st st - should have done a sleeve instead but ended up doing another WIP Rolling Eyes
FatCat

My pattern's arrived!  And by the power of working from home I've cast on the back during my lunch break.  Only done a few rows of rib so far, nothing to show.  Not really looking forward to all the stocking stitch, so might have to have a front on the go at the same time  Very Happy

Hope your pattern arrives soon Mogie  Very Happy   And that you are OK with the fiddley bits today Pictish  Very Happy
pictish

Been at work and am still a bit tired so may do something else but I'm hoping to pick it up again tomorrow when I'm off all day.
mogiebear

Got the New Lanark wool/silk yesterday morning, and pattern in the afternoon.
Need to find some motivation to swatch now Crying or Very sad

Ooh, what a lovely colour Very Happy
pictish

That's very nice - a lovely rust Cool
cazzie

Nice colour - what does the yarn feel like - is it very soft?
melody yarns

Oooh lovely rust colour Mogie  Cool

I'm dipping out of this KAL and I'm going to knit the cabled front cardigan jacket  with the wide collar from the City Knits book. One day  Laughing
