Sirdar Hoodie KALThis is the pattern here - Sirdar 8427. It's still current. I'm knitting it in exactly the wool of the pattern ie Sirdar Country Style DK in Rosehip shade 527. It takes 4 100g balls for 32" and 34" and 5 balls for 36, 38 & 40. It costs about £2.79 a ball in Kemps or I paid £3.30 in my LYS.
I'm about a third up the back which is just plain st st. Piccy soon.

I suppose as I already have this otn, it would be rude not to join in wouldn't it
I have the back, and part of one front done. I'm using jaeger Monte cristo which is a cotton blend and very nice and soft!
heres the back, now finished

That's very nice. I like the yarn Terri. Very silky looking.
Don't suppose Sirdar sell their patterns as PDFs online? This looks like something I could cope with.

I have this pattern (no surprise there then!! ) and I'd love to join in but I have a few WIPs otn at the moment that I'd like to finish before I cast on anything new. I have some gorgeous King Cole Merino DK that would be perfect for this. And some Wendy Merino DK, and Jaeger DK, and......

My elves work for free in exchange for dancing in my stash, easily pleased bless them

oooh! Now this is very tempting. I've plenty of DK in my stash, got some lilac Sirdar Bonus that I started Ivy in last year and then frogged, that'd do nicely. Just need to lay my hands on the pattern and I may well join in! Got SO many things OTN that one more won't hurt ... will it?

What am I like. More to the point, what are you like Pictish and Terri, hooking me in like that
Okay - I've ordered the pattern and this colour.
What I can't work out is if I've broken my stashalong..... I said I wouldn't buy any yarn which I didn't know what I was going to make with (appalling grammar ) so that's not broken. But I also said I was going to knit up all my wips and projects in waiting - so that is broken.
But I've not spent any of my Christmas money yet So it can be a present, which doesn't count. So stashalong is still intact
Fab.

Thanks! Also found it at Dianne's But rather tempted by the Countrystyle DK in Greystone for it ... if I've got to place an order for the pattern anyhow then I might as well get the yarn too. Hmm. I really don't need it though
I think what I'll do is sleep on it, see how I feel about it all tomorrow morning and then decide. I really don't need another wip, maybe I don't need to join in on this one. Hmm. Dunno.

See, I liked the Greystone colour too - so if you did it in that then I could see it in real life and decide if I really liked it And you are the girl that says it doesn't matter how many wips you have - at least I think it was you
Anyway - my order's been dispatched - could be with me tomorrow Will keep if for holiday knitting next week.

Oh dear, that does sound like the sort of thing I'd say Well, now you've made it sound as if I really do need to buy it - all in a good cause so you could see it. But I'm in a major quandary now - do I do this or do I do the Sirdar Eco Yarn cabled yoke cardi (scroll down a bit) that I've just noticed?
I wonder if I should place a bet on the percentage of you that suggest I do both .... ?

Well now I think you should just tackle one WIP at a time .........

Oh I'd definitely get both patterns and yarn and tackle both WIPs; think of the postage charges you'd save getting both at the same time (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!)
|

|
I HAVE said that on another thread!!! It's gorgeous yarn the Eco Wool
|
FatCat
|
well, I'm still very undecided but I think I might go for this one, the Sirdar hoodie, especially after costing up the Eco Yarn
So, I've been looking at the pattern sizing, and I'm a tad confused about whether to do the 81cm size, which fits a size 10 and comes out at an actual chest size of 86cm, or the 86cm, which fits a size 12 and comes out at 91cm. I'm a size 10 so in an ideal world I'd do the smallest size but if I made the 86cm then I could wear it over long-sleeved things Or would it just be too big
Any advice anyone? I am sorry about all these questions and my dithering! I'm not in a very decisive mood at the moment
|
FatCat
|
Right, decision has been made. Finally! I'm definitely in for this one! And I have been ever so good, all I've ordered is the pattern, and not the Eco book or yarn, or even any Countrystyle - dug out my lilac Sirdar Bonus from stash and decided that it will do just fine
But if anyone does have any advice on the sizing then I'd be grateful
|

Could you maybe measure something in your wardrobe that you're happy with and use that as a guideline? 'd personally go for the smaller size as knitted fabric does stretch a bit

Won't be using Countryside though - I don't like the feel of it knitted up (digital monkey and all that )

That is a very nice pattern though, and aran so it'll knit up quickly. But I think I'm sticking with Rogue and this Sirdar one. For the time being. But once I manage to get my sticky paws on the pattern for CPH then that I shall definitely make one of those too

)Ah yes! I love hoodies
And jackets with collars...
I'm nearly finished with my Paris cotton jacket, which I'm not all that happy with now that it's nearly done but I'll spare you the details. I want to cast on something new! But at the rate I knit and the limited time I have it might have to be something for the summer months
I have the pattern for the Sirdar hoodie and a couple of full packs of King Cole Merino DK which is lovely yarn... but I could use that in the grey for the Eco-Wool cable-y patterned cardigan with the yoke... or .....
|
melody yarns

See now, for some strange reason I've just been and visited the Knitwell online shop and looked at Stylecraft Pure Wool DK to knit this bloomin Sirdar hoodie in... and I DON'T WANT ANY MORE YARN!!!!

What are you like!!! Just get some of your Jaeger DK out or the King Cole - that sounds lovely!!! Or have a good look at your yarn spreadsheet thingy
|
FatCat

LOL! But then sometimes new yarn is just the ticket But you say yourself you DON'T NEED IT
What Pictish said is very wise - why don't you cast on with something you've got first? And if you don't like how it's coming out then you can go for the new yarn option
|
melody yarns

Yes you're both absolutely right, buggritt
Although Mr Melody had promised me a trip to Yarn in Notts and I was going to order this yarn in lieu of travelling all the way to Nottingham and all the way back and dragging three yarn-impatient men around a yarn shop and.....

LOL, nice soft alpaca ones that you can stroke when you feel the need to buy coming on
There's always the reality check treatment - find out how much yarn you actually have already that you could use for this project .... mind you, when I try that approach the shock of the size of my stash tends to send me screaming to the nearest online yarn store just to get over it
|
loobyj
|
Oh no - poor Debs - but the King Cole merino is nice - but then so's the lure of new yarn.....
The countrystyle is knitting up nicely, am on to the lovely straight stocking stitch bit now - so can knit away without looking Am doing this on straights - I've been using circulars for so long now even for straight stuff my wrists are aching this morning Might have to search and see if I've got any bamboos.
My plan is to get as much done of the back and sleeves as I can while I'm away next week - then do the funny stuff when I get home.
lj

Looby, when you knit little pieces like sleeves on circulars do you find that the connecting cord twirls around and irritates you when you're knitting?

Looby, looby, looby - we want pics!
|
mogiebear

Yarn arrived this morning - before we were up! (2nd day in a row big squishy parcel has arrived before dh has left for work ) - just as well it was Valentines day!
Pattern might arrive later on - if the postman hasn't too many cards to deliver on his round .
|
loobyj
|
Yes - I find the cord goes all bendy and twists things up a bit I have got a 40cm 4mm somewhere I think - might see if I can get away with that for the sleeves on this one.
I'll try and post a progress pic before I go FC - though ribbing and stocking stitch may not float your boat terribly much

My pattern's arrived! And by the power of working from home I've cast on the back during my lunch break. Only done a few rows of rib so far, nothing to show. Not really looking forward to all the stocking stitch, so might have to have a front on the go at the same time
Hope your pattern arrives soon Mogie And that you are OK with the fiddley bits today Pictish
