Sirdar Calico DKPopped into my little Sirdar shop this afternoon and they've just got this in and it looks and feels GORGEOUS!! Some very pretty pastelly colours but not TOO pale - a little like the Baby Bamboo shades actually. I fancy trying it later as the patterns are lovely. I think it was £2 a 50g ball in my shop but no doubt it's cheaper on the net. It's 60% cotton 40% acrylic I think and feels very soft.

I got 5 balls of this in lime the other day AND I paid full price (£1.99) for them, I don't know what came over me . I'm casting on today for the round neck top with garter st neckband from the calico book

You're not well!!!!
That sounds like the pattern I want to make - I wanted to buy the book yesterday but my shop didn't have it just the separate patterns. I like the lacy cardi with the ruffle as well.

Hobbycraft had this last time i went in - does look lovely. But I'm determined not to succumb
I have got the pattern book (from Diannes) though - want to do some of the patterns with some existing cotton DK

I saw this in my local shop and thought it was lovely and soft and the colours very gentle - I would like to make something for my DD with it.

I had a look at this yarn and this pattern irl in a shop and is it just me or does the collar on this cardigan look a bit like there are several rows of garter stitch on one end of the collar, and only one row on the other end
I think it must be a mistake in the knitting - shame really

It does look a bit lopsided

I've just looked in the pattern book and the long-sleeved version in cream is knitted exactly the same way.

I might be wrong but it looks like the collar is knitted with short row shaping round the neck edge and then stitched on? Maybe we can't see the short rows of garter stitch around the neck edge that is closest to us and it's an optical illusion...?

I noticed that too. It's knitted separately over 20 sts. If you look closely at the right of the pic, you can see the garter sts, it would (could?) only be symmetrical, i think, if you knit it in 2 pieces as it turns upside-down to come back down the front iyswim ?
I might be making this too but I like symmetry
btw I think the yarn quantities are out in the book. The top I made says 4 balls & I used all but about 10g of 5 balls.

Other peeps have said that on Rav too about the amounts

So would you advise buying an extra ball then?
I have this pattern http://tinyurl.com/326crt and I plan to make the scoop neck version (the green one in the small pic). In fact I almost bought the Calico for it today, but decided to hang on!!!

I'm hoping to make that one too. I'm waiting for a call off Sirdar about incorrect quantities on patt 9030 as they state 5 balls for sleeveless & 9 for the short-sleeved version So I'm going to mention the Calico ones too. I'll let you know if they say the amounts are wrong for any of them.
