Sirdar Baby BambooMy LYS has just got some of this in and it's [i]gorgeous[i] I haven't knitted with it so have no idea what it's like to knit with, but here are some initial observations. It isn't a tape yarn like the other bamboo yarns around at the moment (which I know puts some people off), it's lovely and soft to handle, it has a sheen reminiscent of silk, the colours are divine and it doesn't look as if it will split or unravel when being knitted. Even better it has a bog-standard DK tension, so will knit to any DK pattern.
I'm torn between knitting something from the The Most Luxurious Sublime Hand Knit Book or using it to knit Ivy. The Sublime tension is identical, whereas the Ivy would require swatching, so I'm leaning towards a Sublime pattern. Decisions, decisions, what to choose hmmm.......

Thanks for that Anna - I think I will be trying this soon. I'm glad it's not a tape yarn

I really didn't need a rave review for it.
I've been drooling over the colours on the GK site and in the back of my mind thought that some of the colours would look fab as a little granny square blanket.
And now you've said it's lovely.
Just a thought - do they sell Sirdar in Hobbycraft, I know they've got Sublime which is part of Sirdar isn't it?

I've been drooling over that as well, I wanted to make my friends little one something out of it but the pattern book wasn't in stock. Soon as it's in I'm going to indulge as my little ones are in the size range as well.

I got some of this (in lilac) from my lys. £2.50 a ball and I get 10% discount when I buy it on a Wednesday evening, at my sewing class - plus a £10 gift voucher I was saving from Christmas until I found something I really liked. All in all quite a bargain! The only drawback is that I have to wait until they next place an order with their supplier, as I wanted more than they had in stock
Still, it gives me chance to finish my current project!

Anna, that is a bargain
I've been stalking Em's every day & finally they have it!

Pah - I'd already got some from GK. And it's lovely, though possibly a bit splitty! And I'm already a third of the way through a crochet blanket cos it's so lovely to work with. And soft and sheeny. And did I mention lovely?!

I swatched this and some RYC to check my tension. On my Addi 3.75mm I get the same tension stitch wise but one more row than the RYC. That said I really want to knit it in RYC now I've swatched.

Gilrean, have you tried the shop Ali mentioned that's closing down, they might have some left & everything's half price?

I know they had some RYC stuff but I didn't ask about the bamboo.

I think you have to phone them for orders & their email was up the swanny yesterday, they'd had 138 emails in & it had crashed!

Thanks, I'll wait until next month before ordering. I've got to 'pace' myself

Just had to say that I got one ball of the Baby Bamboo today - I really MUST stop going to the Sirdar shop in my break - and it is incredibly nice to knit with - it is very soft and has a very silky feel and a slight sheen to it. It's 80% bamboo and 20% wool and the colours I saw were all very pretty muted pastels. The patterns are only baby ones but you can knit it to any Sirdar DK pattern.
I really didn't want to know this at the start of my stashalong

It is lovely... I'm crocheting a granny square blanket in Babe, Willow and whatever the pale blue's called. All 48 squares done over the weekend, just have to finish edging them in cream and sew it all together. To give it a bit more drape I've used a 4.5mm hook.
Am wondering about making Tahoe from the latest Knitty in it - stitch tension is the same as the DB Cathay and the row tension slightly less, but the pattern knits it to a looser tension anyway.

That'll be gorgeous I bet lj - looking forward to seeing it. And I think Tahoe will work well with the bamboo too. I'm looking around at patterns this morning but am on this stashalong now

Right, I give up, I've got to get some of this, I want to make this from the Luxury soft cotton book. I want to see the colours before I order it though

I was looking at that one this morning I don't think you'll be disappointed with the colours Jo they are gorgeous - I got a ball of the pink - Babe

Ooooh, I've got to get some of this quickly. The other thread about Sirdar selling off their yarns division is making me jumpy, I'd hate not to get some of this, I've got it lined up for Martha in the Sublime Angora book.

I know - I'm getting all worried about this and the Sublime going now

I got some! I managed to narrow it down to 2 colours & had the darker pink, but I've now got to get the other one aswell - the ming blue. How lovely is it? I've had to put it away, it nearly unwrapped itself & cast-on, all by itself!

Isn't it just BEAUTIFUL Jo I nearly went to my little wool shop after work but it was raining How can you be on a stashalong when there is lovely stuff like that coming out

I'm waiting for" Ming" too! It was a difficult choice colourwise, they all look nice.

I nearly tore the poor woman's arm off in Cucumberpatch, she was walking to the display to put it out, it had literally just been delivered!

I was playing with some today in my LYS, she'd had a delivery of some knitted-up garments from Sirdar and among them was a hooded cardigan in baby bamboo, it's sooooooo beautiful knitted up, and the construction of the cardigan is fantastic, we had it inside out and were admiring the seams on the sleeves and how tidy the edge was where the colours were carried up
Anyway, i it and i also love all the colours and would love to have a baby to knit for with some

Hopefully be some pics of my blanket after the weekend - in sleepy blue, babe and willow edged with cream. Think it will be yummy and soft and snuggly.

As it knits to a standard DK tension you don't need to have a baby to use it on!! I've got my eye on some for Martha from the sublime book

Ohhhhhh, i don't make adult sized things, i don't have the patience for anything bigger than a shrug.... Oooooooooh, can you imagine a sublimely soft long sleeved flared cuff shrug to wrap yourself in... must reject these thoughts... BAD Craftylady!

this stuff is just gorgeous to knit with! I made a baby hat with an i-cord knot at the top (trying to avoid calling it an umbilical cord hat lol it makes me feel sick ) and it was so soft and lush

I was within a whisker of buying some for my mother to knit with, but chickened out.
(Sorry poultry owners, but you know what I mean ) The reason being that I thought it might prove to be a bit splitty, especially with her hands being a bit stiff these days.

I bought some Bamboo and Silk mix from Hartmuth for baby things it is so lovely and really soft. I have also knitted Leaf from Sublime that i also got from them and it is really lovely. I did however sub the hems with seed stitch cos I thought the picot edge hem was a bit bulky.
