Simply Knitting 60, Nov 2009

Bought this today mainly for the free gift - 2 wooden shawl pins (mind you, they came apart as I took them out of the packaging  Rolling Eyes  but a bit of superglue has sorted them out nicely  Razz  Laughing )

It has a very pretty aran weight pink cardi with a cabled edge (on the front cover), a mohair lacey wrap, Christmassy potholders and coasters (nice way to have a go at intarsia, I might even try it  Shocked  Laughing ), a tank top and sleeveless cardigan twinset in DK, 12 quick ideas for Christmas presents (scarves, gloves, hats, bangles etc), and a Martin Storey men's cardigan, whicih looks, well, I guess classic would be a tactful description!

Also a couple of toy patterns - a Pudsey Bear and an Alan Dart Rudolph Reindeer.  I'm never going to knit toys, really not my thing at all, so if anybody wants either of both of them then drop me a PM  Very Happy

ETA - Pudsey pattern has gone to a new home.  Rudolph still available  Very Happy

I must admit my shawl pins went straight in the bin  Shocked Laughing But there are some nice things in the mag Razz

Straight in the bin?   Shocked  Laughing Ah well, shows how we're all different!   I really like mine  Laughing

Well mine were snapped Confused Maybe the postie's doing though.
FatCat

Oh that's not good  Sad Mine weren't snapped, it was just that the tops had come off the pins, so easily fixed.

I'm wondering if I'm brave enough to attempt the pink cardi, I'm not sure I've ever made anything successfully from SK  Rolling Eyes

good marketing strategy there FC...  Rolling Eyes  Laughing  Laughing

Erm .... yeah, thanks  Debs!   Embarassed  Reading back it would seem I haven't presented it very positively - broken gift and unsuccessful patterns   Rolling Eyes  Laughing

Let me clarify.   When I said I'd never successfully made anything from SK I mean that I'd not got around to finishing things or hadn't liked the things I had finished.  The patterns themselves that I've tried have always been fine, it's just all been down to me not SK.

But they could probably do with choosing better glue and packaging for the shawl pins next time around  Razz

I get it on subscription but must admit I only knitted one cardi for me and it had errors. I do have a few patterns I will do when I get time though.

i quite like the pink cardi, loved the shawl pins (though one had the top fallen off because postie bent it to get it through the letter box). i like pudsey!

The tops came off my shawl pins also - mine went in the bin  Embarassed

I bought this issue in the shops yesterday, shawl pins thankfully intact! I rather like them, and they should come in useful for things like the jacket in Nomad I'll be making this winter  Very Happy

I've also just resubscribed to SK, caved in when I saw the Mili bag offer  Laughing Easily bribed with knitting accessories! They do still do a basic offer for subs without the gifts, but the extra is still a lot less than the bag would cost, if that makes sense ....

Laughing I'm always up for a free Mili bag Laughing but I'm subscribing already - I like it for the articles about new yarns and what's happening as much as anything. It's usually got something of interest too - did it have the Rowan Colourscape pattern this month or was that Knit Today?  Embarassed admits to being a knitting magazine tart Laughing It is a nice pattern for a gilet anyway from the new book Razz

That must have been Knit Today with the Colourscape pattern, sounds nice!

It's this one DC - I like the colourway it's done in too.

I like the colourway too, that's a gorgeous pattern. How many skeins does it take? I have 4 that were intended for the Skye wrap  Very Happy

4 for a 36-8" (actual = 41") same for the next size down which is 37.5" finished Cool There's a nice jacket in the mag as well actually (why I bought it) which is a wrap in cream Artesano Aran with a biggish collar but the guage is 18st so you could use any aran.
dreamcatcher

Thanks ali, might have to get the mag - not one I normally buy as I found the early issues rather uninspiring. Sounds worth it for the patterns though  Very Happy

I know - it's usually not my cup of tea Laughing
